Revelations From This Morning

By Abby at 12:33 pm on Thursday, May 31, 2007

I have learned (or confirmed) several things this morning:

  • Baking banana bread is more complex a task than I was ready for this morning
  • Whole Foods does not sell Baking Soda
  • Neither does Eckerd’s Drug Store
  • The Jack Daniels convenience store does sell eggs
  • I am the most ADD person alive
  • My mother is a good listener (except when Dad is talking to her in the background)
  • Blogging about how difficult organic herb gardening is going to be in North Carolina is not the best use of my time

Alabaster

By Abby at 12:20 am on Thursday, May 31, 2007

I’ve been messing around with some great editing tools lately. I’m really proud of these reedits of some self-portraits I took a while back:
Lipstick Reedit Somewhat Picasso-esque Reedit

I also can’t delay in publicly thanking Jen for her generosity. She has a new Canon SLR that she brought out tonight just so I could play around with it. THANKS, JEN! In some ways it’s torturous to experience how easy it is to take wonderful pictures with a better camera knowing that it will be a LONG WHILE before I’m able to buy one, but it’s also motivating and exciting. One day… or maybe sooner if Canon sees my plea!

Go See “Waitress”

By Abby at 1:18 pm on Wednesday, May 30, 2007

I loved it. It’s so good in so many ways. it’s just a really unique and quirky treatment of a somewhat dark story. And the pie scenes are the ultimate in food-porn. I recommend skipping the reviews and just heading out. Trust me on this point. If you’ve seen or read about it, you know why. Just go. You won’t regret it.

Dear Canon USA

By Abby at 5:22 pm on Tuesday, May 29, 2007

Dear Canon USA,

I’m an amateur photographer. I am beyond prolific. I have one of your Powershot A540’s, and it goes everywhere I go. While some people use Auto all the time, I use every single setting the camera has. I usually shoot in manual mode, but I also use Aperture Priority a lot, and recently, I’ve been very taken with the Color Accent feature. My Canon is my constant companion, and noone puts it to better use than I.

Right now, I’m studying for my licensure exam, but I’m not working. Recently, I went to a wedding and encountered many wealthy people with your SLR’s. I know I am not making any money, but is it really fair that people who don’t even know how to use their cameras, people who only pull out their cameras for special occasions, should have nicer cameras than someone like me, who takes pictures off my camera and edits and uploads them every single day? I will be working soon, and I promise that as soon as I’m on my feet, you’ll have a loyal and dedicated Canon fan for years to come. I bring so much to the world with my pictures. Isn’t it only fair that I get a nice Canon Digital Rebel XTi with maybe a nice bokeh lens?

What do you say? I promise I’ll make you proud! I’m sure you have some of last year’s models sitting around somewhere, just gathering dust. I say put them to good use.

Thanks,

Abby

Attention Google Reader Users! (Tech Question)

By Abby at 3:09 pm on Sunday, May 27, 2007

I’ve always set my feeds in Google Reader to only show updated ones. The other day, I accidentally switched it to show all feeds, and I can’t get it back to normal. There used to be a “show” button (as seen here) that made switching really easy, but it seems to be gone. I’ve turned off all extensions and Greasemonkey scripts, and I still can’t find the button that makes it only show updated feeds. Help!
