Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Troublemaker

Life is in flux BIG TIME these days. I want to keep in touch with all of my peeps. The Internet is this beautiful thing. I can move to a brand new city and still stay in easy, near-daily contact with the people I love. When I feel connected to the people in my life that matter, I am unstoppable!

Trapped in the Closet

By Abby at 4:00 pm on Saturday, April 29, 2006

Kristin Can Barely Contain Her GleeWe made it to the the R. Kelley Trapped in the Closet Sing Along. What a blast! Kristin has been so very excited about this. She showed up with a bag of props, including a pear, a deck of cards, a roll of toilet paper, and condoms. She seemed very upset that she was unable to locate cherries. I think she paid more attention whenJen Almost Didn't Make It she saw it, because I honestly couldn’t remember exactly what any of the props were for. Most of this stuff was tossed around at crucial times during the video at Kristin’s command, "Throw it!"

We met up with Jon, Kristopher, and Jen at the Coolidge Corner Clubhouse (a place I’m not likely to go back to – undergrad sportsbar from hell!) across the street. Jen didn’t have a ticket, and the event was sold out, so we had to work the line to get her hooked up, but we did it! I’m sure she’s thrilled we did.

This event was transported from Austin, and they actually flew the host up. He was a total trip! Seriously. He presented us with the question of the night, which was this…

Is R. Kelley a genius or a fucking retard?

Got Our Tickets! We answered this question by taking a trip through R. Kelley’s musical past. The Trapped in the Closet episodes were separated by RK videos, and everyone was encouraged to get up and dance, and dance we did! Even hopped up on the stage. There were RK-style improvs from audience members, as well as several "Trapped" parodies, including South Park, Dave Chappelle, and a bad remake by an Austin high school student. The TITC chapters played with subtitles, and the audience sang along. We were encouraged to leave the theater using the phrase "hot mess." Everyone say it with me:

HOT MESS

The line that always sticks with me is:

What I’m about to tell you is so damn twisted / not only is a man in the cabinet, but the man / is a midget-midget-midget.

It was a really late night, and there are reports to write, so those of you who joined me, please add more.

More Trapped Pictures Here.

Pretzel Butterflies

By Abby at 9:20 pm on Thursday, April 27, 2006

I have a tendency to overacquire cookbooks. I recently pared down my collection (something I do periodically), and I gave several cookbooks to Linda. I’m so glad I did. Her 5 year old Joey took a particular shine to one of the books (I think I picked that one up at Boomerang on Centre Street), and it turned out to be particularly useful for Bug Week at his school.

16 perfect pretzel butterflies, with a little caramel in the middle holding them together. I’m so happy she took pictures! Nice work, Joey!

I am not on the Cape

By Abby at 6:14 pm on Thursday, April 20, 2006

You may have noticed that I am not driving to Cape Cod right now. I caught that, too. It kinda bums me out, actually. I have a friend at work who has a house there, and she generously offered it to me since she knew I was a bit on the broke side (a bit – hah! – actually, I’m MUCH more broke now than I was when she offered). Anyhoo, I found out last week that the plumber came across some problems when readying the house for the season, and unfortunately, that meant no trip for me… at least not now.

Pondering this unfortunate state of affairs, I decided to take Jeep up on the roof. I have taken to semi-daily trips up there with Maggie since the weather has improved, but Jeep has been very interested in sitting in the window, and she even escaped up the stairs when my upstairs neighbor and I returned from yoga last night. She used to go out on the deck all the time in Bloomington. So I put on the little kitty leash and off we went. As we reached the roof, I felt something warm on my arm. And so we wandered back down to my apartment at a brisk clip, I released her, and I washed the pee off my sweatshirt sleeve.

Sigh.

I sure hope my luck changes… a lot. At least there’s karaoke tomorrow night, and it’s FREE. I’ve been looking up good duets to do. Oh, and I get to meet Kristin’s parents tonight, which should be cool. I’ve recently started referring to Kristin as my "boyfriend" since we hang out all the time. It’s good for us, as fellow recent dumpees who want to have lives, but who aren’t exactly on the make just yet. I hope my boyfriend’s parents like me! 😛

Gig-O-Rama

By Abby at 3:40 pm on Friday, April 14, 2006

Here’s a fine example of my ADD in action. I was checking Bloglines, and Jon from Bostonist had posted about the Pixies being on Henry Rollins this weekend, and so I decided to instant message him a thank you for the fine content. Then I went on to say that I had seen them in the Oberlin College gym. He asked if I had a ticket stub, since I’ve uploaded a few of those lately. I said I didn’t think I did. But then I started looking… And then I found it, took a picture, and uploaded it! And then there were so many more to upload. Half the day was lost taking pictures, uploading, tagging, then e-mailing the set around to all the people who I’ve been to gigs with over the years. The responses rolled in, and I had a fine time responding to everyone and reminiscing. I am still pretty sick, so I guess I can excuse myself for such slackerly behavior. Plus, most of Boston is celebrating Patriot’s Day (a holiday that’s new to me) on Monday, and I’m planning on working, so I can rationalize my low productivity, right? RIGHT?!! 😀

What is it about mid-April that makes me deal with ticket stubs?!

Tiara and Boa Day?

By Abby at 11:13 am on Monday, April 10, 2006

Dearest Veronica,

I fear that I am a bit cash poor at present. Will this boa suffice in place of my lei on "Tiara and Lei" day?

Yours in crime,

Abby

P.S. – For those NOT in the know, please see Mynxie, Veronica, and Anne.
