Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Troublemaker

Life is in flux BIG TIME these days. I want to keep in touch with all of my peeps. The Internet is this beautiful thing. I can move to a brand new city and still stay in easy, near-daily contact with the people I love. When I feel connected to the people in my life that matter, I am unstoppable!

Blackberry Whoas

Now stop right there. Please do not tell me to get an iPhone. I’ve actually looked into it, and I can’t afford that right now. So just move along if you’re here to tell me all about how the iPhone is better. I have some real tech problems that are kinda driving me crazy that I’d like to fix. So please, if you have some answers, share them. 😀

Blackberry Porn

Problem #1: My office is in a dead zone. My BB gets service most anywhere, EXCEPT for my office. And whenever I go into my office, I can’t even make phone calls. And when I leave my office, my BB can’t find service again, like EVER. That is, unless I do a full restart, taking out the battery in the back and everything. Ugh. What a pain.

Problem #2: I lost a little spring in the back. It’s annoying. I don’t think it can be replaced since this is a disposable culture. I’m sorry, but I don’t have hundreds of dollars to replace the whole BB when it’s just a spring that’s gone.

Problem #3: In order to use Opera Mini (the best BB browser), I need to have the firewall turned off, or I’m faced with a nag every single time. That was no problem until I installed the YouMail app (which I love). Only problem is that for that app, I have to have the firewall turned ON or I get TWO nags every time I open up the program. What?!!

Problem #4: For some reason, every picture I’ve attempted to mail in the last week has failed. I wasn’t warned or anything. Just didn’t work. Why? I don’t get it. I find this really annoying. I haven’t changed any passwords or anything.

Problem #5: GooSync isn’t working consistently. Every now again (not every time), when I add an event to my BB calendar, it doesn’t sync up with my Google calendar. This is why, last week, when I was STARVING and really ready to go home, a patient showed up for a 2 hour appointment. I looked at Google calendar: Nothing. Looked at my Blackberry. There it was. Not acceptable! And I can’t figure out why that event is any different from any other events.

Problem #6: Some programs drain the battery. I know what some of these are: Google Maps (with GPS turned on) and the Chronograph (stopwatch) are the worst offenders. I’d like to have something similar to Windows Task Manager that would tell me what didn’t get turned off correctly so I can work out what is draining the battery. I don’t mind things running in the background, but if they are battery drainers, I sure wish they would exit out whenever I moved to another program.

OK, all done. Any advice you have is most appreciated. I do love copy-paste. I do love the full QWERTY keyboard. And there are many other things I do like, but these annoyances are becoming “LOUD” (if you know what I mean). They are starting to mess with my bliss, and that ain’t OK.

I wish you the best in getting these issues resolved. I know they are driving you a bit bonkers. I love to solve this type of thing! Sadly it’s a bit outside my area of expertise. So instead, I’ll remain a staunch supporter in your quest for BBB (BlackBerry Bliss).

Problem #6. I got an extended battery for my Blackberry, and I can go 5 days without a charge (and I use my Blackberry).

It adds a little weight and bulk, but it was worth it.

Not the answer you sought, but it’s all I got.

#1- We installed repeaters in our building so we could get service in our building. Your building may not have any.

#2-6- Have you been to the verizon store to ask for help?

That’s all I have.

get an iphone!….lol….just kidding.

as a fellow crackberry addict i experience some of the same frustrations, especially with gCalendar. sometimes they won’t sync, or mysteriously change times. i think that’s a google issue though, not bberry coz i know folks who have that prob n they’re not on the crack.

i was never a fan of opera. have u tried BOLT? takes some getting used to but fairly fast n amazing.

that’s all i got. have you hit the crackberry.com forums? i can usually find answers to all things bberry there.

I have a (Lesbian) friend whose BB got run over by a car, and she repaired it herself, replacing the keyboard and LED screen, I think she said. She may be able to help with #2. I’m going to point her to this blog entry.

(I know that I, myself, hire a Lesbian whenever I have any handiwork that needs done.) 😉

I don’t know what you are talking about with any of this (although I grasp the idea of a missing spring – sort of like the one I lost out of my camera which forced me to buy a whole new one), but I wish you a lot of luck and I’m here if you want to whine.

WHINE! Thanks, Mom. The plan now is to do all I can to get these nags fixed. If that doesn’t work, I’m hauling in two friends to my office – although they don’t know this yet. First, my friend Ogun, who has a newer BB model, to see if HE gets service in my office. Next is anyone with an iPhone, so see if THEY get service in my office. If noone can get service in my office, maybe I’ll just give up on that dream. Otherwise, I may have to start figuring out how to upgrade, because this is WAY too annoying all the damn time.

Problem #1: I’m not sure about your phone, or whether you’ve already tried this but… I don’t get reception in certain spots around my house, and if I leave my BlackBerry in those areas, it shuts the “Mobile Network” connection off to save the battery. (Otherwise it dies after a couple hours of searching in vain for a signal). When I re-enter an area that gets service, I just have to go to “Manage Connections” and check the box for “Mobile Network” to turn it back on – otherwise it would never pick up a signal until I power-cycle it. Hopefully it is something simple like that for you, as well.

And as for Problem 6, I just experienced that myself this weekend when I installed Chronograph! Suddenly I couldn’t make it through even one day out of the house on a charge. And charging itself took probably twice as long as usual. Ugh.

Ooooo! That might be the ticket, Diane. That is by far the most annoying nag of all. I mean, it’s the reason I would be dead set on finding another phone/service/etc.
