Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Troublemaker

Life is in flux BIG TIME these days. I want to keep in touch with all of my peeps. The Internet is this beautiful thing. I can move to a brand new city and still stay in easy, near-daily contact with the people I love. When I feel connected to the people in my life that matter, I am unstoppable!

Can’t Sleep

By Abby at 6:47 am on Friday, July 6, 2007

:(

Jeep is sick again. Sitting in her sick basket on my bed, growling, wagging her tail, not moving, won’t eat or drink. I hate not being able to help. Once she woke me up, I couldn’t get my mind off the fact that I’m supposed to (according to my own schedule) take this exam in 3 weeks, and my scores are nowhere near good enough yet. If I fail and have to retake it again, I have to repay the $500. I’m trying not to panic, but I’m failing at this point. I feel like I never have enough concentration for this stuff to sink in. I’ve taken to memorizing answers rather than learning in a more holistic way. It seems to have a better effect, which is actually a testament to how poor the test is constructed. OK, I’m going to attempt more sleep. Only about 4.5-5 hours so far.

She seems to be having problems on a regular basis. Have you put her bouts on a time line so you can look for a pattern? For example, do they spray your apartment for bugs? Maybe something like that is affecting her. Just my 2cents worth.

abby, please remember that standardized tests are not designed to benefit the test-taker in any way, unless you can figure out a way to pass. they are certainly not designed with your (or anyone else’s) learning style in mind! you know already that they are going to be testing you on things you will never, ever apply in your practice, so if learning how to answer the questions is what helps you to improve your scores, rather than trying to fully grok concepts you’ll never think about again, then i say learn how to answer the questions.

just breathe. take care of jeep. the rest of the world can wait until you have finished this process. yep, the whole world can wait. unless you specifically want anyone to break up the monotony, and then we will have to be conscious of the fact that our presence in your life is, for now, on your terms. i know that i, for one, will do all i can to alleviate your panic, but will try very hard not to bug you when a distraction is the last thing you need. i hope others can recognize their roles right now, too. if you need me, just holler. ifnot, i’ll try to respect your need for study/cat care/abby time.

and remember that i love you, doll!

That’s a great idea, Shannon. It will be easy, since I’m such a documenter. Just need to look at the blog and the photos!

Katy, thanks so much. Going underground SO isn’t my thing, but I’m really trying. I’m really bad at it, but yeah… trying. I have some plans this weekend. Considering canceling out on some, but it’s hard. 🙁

I wanna PLAY!

You can play in 3 short weeks! Now’s the time to hunker down. There will be lots of fun to be had in 3 weeks.

Well, I slept about 2 hours last night. But at least I don’t have to worry about taking any big tests…

Two?!! That’s not good, Tom! Even I do better than that! How were your fireworks?

The fireworks were great! We had to cover up the ears of the little girl next door with headphones, because the fireworks got a little too loud.

Also, I popped an Ambien last night, so I finally got some sleep.
