I’m doing that Steve Garfield thing, where you have a question you want answered (and your last Ask MetaFilter questions was asked too recently) and you ask your reader…
What is this flower? Mom says it isn’t a morning glory.
They are an Oberlin band, you know:
Yeah Yeah Yeahs got their start while students at Ohio’s Oberlin College in 2000, with Karen O (short for Orzolek) on vocals, Nick Zinner on guitar and Brian Chase on drums.
I saw the at the Fillmore in SF a few years ago, and MAN, they are good live. Go. Go! GOOOOOO! See you there?
Why? It’s brilliant. I love it.
Sir Ken Robinston talks about why education needs to embrace creativity, not devalue it.
Sir Ken Robinson is author of Out of Our Minds: Learning to be Creative, and a leading expert on innovation and human resources. In this talk, he makes an entertaining (and profoundly moving) case for creating an education system that nurtures creativity, rather than undermining it. (Recorded February, 2006 in Monterey, CA.)

Oh wow! Thanks so much. I lived in Memphis last year while I was doing a one-year internship in psychology to finish up my doctorate. While I was actually born in Memphis, I’d never lived there as an adult. It was such a cool year, and I swear the highlight of the whole year was the weekend I spent with my then-boyfriend in Clarksdale. Even though it was the weekend before my dissertation defense, the town just drew me in and made everything seem not so bad! I’m in Boston this year. It all seems so far away. I hope I can go back again some time. Check out My Clarksdale Set, especially my favorite photo from the set. It’s of Big George, too. Bored yet? Because if you aren’t, there’s video, too. First, there is a little footage of the Big George recording session we watched earlier in the day. And here’s Big George performing. And last, but certainly not least, watch Puttnin’ baffle me with his dice trick and 3 card Monty at Ground Zero Blues Club, also earlier the same day! Told you I had a great time!
