Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Troublemaker

Life is in flux BIG TIME these days. I want to keep in touch with all of my peeps. The Internet is this beautiful thing. I can move to a brand new city and still stay in easy, near-daily contact with the people I love. When I feel connected to the people in my life that matter, I am unstoppable!

Embracing Creativity in Education

By Abby at 5:56 pm on Wednesday, July 26, 2006

Why? It’s brilliant. I love it.

Sir Ken Robinston talks about why education needs to embrace creativity, not devalue it.

Sir Ken Robinson is author of Out of Our Minds: Learning to be Creative, and a leading expert on innovation and human resources. In this talk, he makes an entertaining (and profoundly moving) case for creating an education system that nurtures creativity, rather than undermining it. (Recorded February, 2006 in Monterey, CA.)

Best of Mississippi, Week of July 25 - August 1st.

By Abby at 5:10 pm on Wednesday, July 26, 2006

I won something. It’s small, but it’s something, and it’s cool!

Big George Brock

Update: I got a comment on this picture that says, "Congratulations! This pic has been chosen as Best of Mississippi in the Mississippi Group for the week of July 25 - August 2!" I went to the thread in the Mississippi Flickr group and posted this:
Oh wow! Thanks so much. I lived in Memphis last year while I was doing a one-year internship in psychology to finish up my doctorate. While I was actually born in Memphis, I’d never lived there as an adult. It was such a cool year, and I swear the highlight of the whole year was the weekend I spent with my then-boyfriend in Clarksdale. Even though it was the weekend before my dissertation defense, the town just drew me in and made everything seem not so bad! I’m in Boston this year. It all seems so far away. I hope I can go back again some time. Check out My Clarksdale Set, especially my favorite photo from the set. It’s of Big George, too. Bored yet? Because if you aren’t, there’s video, too. First, there is a little footage of the Big George recording session we watched earlier in the day. And here’s Big George performing. And last, but certainly not least, watch Puttnin’ baffle me with his dice trick and 3 card Monty at Ground Zero Blues Club, also earlier the same day! Told you I had a great time!

I Guess It’s Mine to Mess Up, Too!

By Abby at 5:27 pm on Tuesday, July 25, 2006

Well rats! I must have deleted the bottom half of my sidebar recently when I was messing around with that Flickr widget, because it’s GONE! There’s probably a relatively recent backup somewhere on my server/desktop computer, but I can’t access that right now. Why do tech problems come in clumps like this? Hmmm… wonder if my hosting company keeps a backup of stuff. Any ideas people? :(

Give Me Those Shoes!

By Abby at 7:43 am on Tuesday, July 25, 2006

She really wanted those shoes!

Driver crashes car into Payless Shoe Store

JAMAICA PLAIN, Mass. — One woman on Monday in Jamaica Plain was perhaps a little too eager to shop for shoes.

The driver, in her 30s, crashed her car into the front window of the Payless Shoe Store at 315 Centre St. She did not suffer any apparent injuries, but was taken to Boston Medical Center to be checked out.

No one in the store was hurt either.
