Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Troublemaker

Life is in flux BIG TIME these days. I want to keep in touch with all of my peeps. The Internet is this beautiful thing. I can move to a brand new city and still stay in easy, near-daily contact with the people I love. When I feel connected to the people in my life that matter, I am unstoppable!

Complete Submission

By Abby at 9:53 am on Tuesday, July 26, 2005

I whipped that dissertation into Complete Submission. Oh yes, I did.

"Complete submission." Heh heh.

OK, now check this out. Before they let you hit submit, you have to fill out a freakin’ survey! A SURVEY, I tell you. Unbelievable. I’m sure I wasn’t the only near-submitter to respond with slightly snarky comments.

Click on the picture above for the full-size version.

What follows is the page you get when you’re done submitting. What I can’t help but notice is the lack of can can dancers and confetti. Surely they can do better than this!

Silly Update: I got a message from the Graduate School saying that I needed to change "July 26, 2005" on the title page to "July 2005" and resubmit. These details, man. They are bordering on the ridiculous!

Why do I get the image of Aaron dancing around in a g-string throwing confetti about in my head after reading that? Scary.

Congrats on the complete submission. Can we call you Dr. Dominatrix now? heh…

😉

Wahoo, quite the accomplishment! I agree though, have always thought that many things would be greatly improved with confetti involvement…

I completely “went there” with the dominatrix image. Sorry, I have a one-track mind.

So when is this process going to end? It seems like you’ve been finished with the dissertation for quite a while now.

WooHoo!!

And jeez. What a letdown confirmation page. Aaron — let’s hack their server so people get little animated dancers and confetti in the future.

[Kidding, government spybots… just kidding!]

Yay! Congratulations… your online submission experience makes me feel so – old-fashioned. Only a year ago I was anxiously waiting for my bound copies to finish at the bindery, so I could drop them off at Kirkwood (half of which is sinking ever so slowly into the ground, I just heard)

End of one era, and the beginning of the next, I guess!

Congrats!!! I found dealing with the layout issues of my dissertation to be as tedious as the actual work of the dissertation, between the margins, the headings, the table of contents (this was pre-web-everything). Hey, maybe the annoying web form actually saves you the pain of having to rewrite and reprint out everything on that overpriced acid free paper!

So, what was the topic, anyway? jen

For most grad students, it’s still pre-web. I’m just a techno-nerd, so I used technology any way I could. My topic was an homework intervention for disorganized sixth graders. I did the study in a local school over Spring semester last year.
