Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Troublemaker

Life is in flux BIG TIME these days. I want to keep in touch with all of my peeps. The Internet is this beautiful thing. I can move to a brand new city and still stay in easy, near-daily contact with the people I love. When I feel connected to the people in my life that matter, I am unstoppable!

My Neighborhood is a Wasteland Today, and I Think It’s Cool!

By Abby at 7:36 pm on Monday, May 1, 2006

Kristin and I walked up the road to grab some cheap eats for dinner. Usually, I wouldn’t be happy about the restaurant being closed, but I was pretty impressed. I’d forgotten about the Day Without Immigrants, but driving around, soooo many local places were closed. If the immigrants weren’t in JP, it would be the wasteland we saw today. As Kristin said, "Good for them." I’m sure they lost a lot of money today, but it definitely proved a point.

This place is around the corner from my house. It is always overflowing with people hanging around inside and on the street. There are usually a few cars out front, too. Today, this is what it looks like for the Day Without Immigrants.

The sign was put up today, the Day Without Immigrants, on the house next door to Kristin. "Si se puede" means "Yes, We Can." It’s a Cesar Chavez reference. Here’s a video I found about him and the Day Without Immigrants.

Update: Asshole visits my Moblog picture! Also, here is some more information on the protests.

Pretzel Butterflies

By Abby at 9:20 pm on Thursday, April 27, 2006

I have a tendency to overacquire cookbooks. I recently pared down my collection (something I do periodically), and I gave several cookbooks to Linda. I’m so glad I did. Her 5 year old Joey took a particular shine to one of the books (I think I picked that one up at Boomerang on Centre Street), and it turned out to be particularly useful for Bug Week at his school.

16 perfect pretzel butterflies, with a little caramel in the middle holding them together. I’m so happy she took pictures! Nice work, Joey!

Sexy Pet Toes

By Abby at 6:45 am on Monday, April 17, 2006

On Friday, my friend Kristin in Houston innocently posted a picture of her Easter pedicure. And so, the fun resumes…

Dear Kristin (and mom), I can’t help myself. I have to be a troublemaker here. My mother has come across this phenomenon on Flickr. If you tag things as feet and toes, you will get LOTS of views because there are so many foot fetishists on Flickr… So I am so bad. I just tagged your pedicure picture on Flickr with both "feet" and "toes." It’s 6:30pm on Friday right now, and this picture has been viewed once. Now let’s see how many views it gets!!! Kristin, please forgive me. My mother and I end up talking about this more often than you could imagine! Plus, it’s a really pretty picture! If you see this as horrible and unforgiveable, I will remove the tags immediately! – Abby

Dear Abby (and Abby’s Mom), I told my sister about this. How do I tag her picture as feet and toes? Can you do hers too? The picture has already been viewed more times than any of my other pictures. Fifteen last I checked. Silly fetishists. – Kristin in Texas

Kristin (and Abby) – I feel certain you will receive hundreds of hits. Check this out: These feet and legs are 67 years old and have been viewed 277 times. My painfully swollen feet and legs from the same day have been viewed 162 times.  Even Mickey’s full body shot, labeled with "legs" has been viewed 64 times.  And who would have thought feet with Halloween socks would pull in 43 views? – Abby’s Mom/Sharon

Apparently, I can’t resist the urge to be amused by this phenomena either! Picture 1, Picture 2. – Kristin

And thus began the birth of the new Flickr group, Sexy Pet Toes! We invite everyone to join . Thanks for the laughs, Kristin and mom!

Gig-O-Rama

By Abby at 3:40 pm on Friday, April 14, 2006

Here’s a fine example of my ADD in action. I was checking Bloglines, and Jon from Bostonist had posted about the Pixies being on Henry Rollins this weekend, and so I decided to instant message him a thank you for the fine content. Then I went on to say that I had seen them in the Oberlin College gym. He asked if I had a ticket stub, since I’ve uploaded a few of those lately. I said I didn’t think I did. But then I started looking… And then I found it, took a picture, and uploaded it! And then there were so many more to upload. Half the day was lost taking pictures, uploading, tagging, then e-mailing the set around to all the people who I’ve been to gigs with over the years. The responses rolled in, and I had a fine time responding to everyone and reminiscing. I am still pretty sick, so I guess I can excuse myself for such slackerly behavior. Plus, most of Boston is celebrating Patriot’s Day (a holiday that’s new to me) on Monday, and I’m planning on working, so I can rationalize my low productivity, right? RIGHT?!! 😀

What is it about mid-April that makes me deal with ticket stubs?!
