Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Troublemaker

Life is in flux BIG TIME these days. I want to keep in touch with all of my peeps. The Internet is this beautiful thing. I can move to a brand new city and still stay in easy, near-daily contact with the people I love. When I feel connected to the people in my life that matter, I am unstoppable!

Throwing Muses/50 Foot Wave “Double Bill” at the Middle East

By Abby at 8:13 am on Friday, June 16, 2006

I am insane for Kristin Hersh in all her incarnations, and so I was over the moon when I got this message in my Inbox from Throwing Music:

THROWING MUSES
Boston
, MA
The Middle East
w/ special guest 50FOOTWAVE
$20 / 18+

A limited number of Virtuous tickets (low fees! helping communities! great company!) have been reserved for TMO peeps and will be available at Virtuous from Friday, June 16 and normal, boring, more expensive tickets from ‘that other company" are at The Middle East.

For those who don’t know, Kristin began with Throwing Muses, then later launched a solo career. In the years since, she has gone back to performing the old Muses catalog (sans half-sister Tanya Donnelly); and in VERY recent history, fronts 50 Foot Wave, her latest and perhaps hardest sound yet. I am always expecting the latest Kristin won’t be as good as the last. I’m never expecting to be impressed even MORE by this woman, but it keeps happening, again and again and again. And to have a double bill of her performing songs from TM and 50FW…

Heaven. I’m in heaven!

I’ve bought two tickets. One for me, and one for the person who convinces me that they are most worthy of the second ticket! Don’t think because you’re my "boyfriend," "boy toy," or best friend that you will have dibs. This ticket is SACRED and will be reserved for the most worthy. 😛

Now that I have my tickets, I decided it was OK to publish the Virtous link. Buy tickets now, while they’re affordable. See you there?

Glad I set my alarm to go off and remind me to buy tickets, because the Virtuous tickets are GONE!

Where I Am Not

By Abby at 9:03 pm on Thursday, June 15, 2006

I didn’t get obsessed with Arctic Monkeys until about a month ago, which means I missed the part where I knew to buy tickets for their gig tonight. Here. In Boston. I hate that I’m missing that.

Instead, I’m back from the office party (not as bad as I’d feared), and I’m watching this Britney interview with Matt Lauer. She’s just referred to “finding her neck.” Um, do you mean “niche”? And then she said, “I love funny people. Funny people are great and so hilarious.” Um… OK. And who didn’t fix that eyeliner blob? And the tits are on display. Man, is this supposed to make her look competent? Cuz it’s not working.

What a long day. I soooo can not wait until Kristin’s birthday tomorrow. It’s going to kick ASS!

Updates

By Abby at 4:28 pm on Friday, May 19, 2006

Pried the Arctic Monkeys out of the CD long enough to put in the Raconteurs, which came in the mail yesterday. It’s KICKASS! Gloriously derivative in all the right ways – Beatles-y, Zeppelin-y, and just excellent in its own right.

Also, bought another container of that toffee and ate the entire fucking thing… in a day. I am a disgusting pig, but a happy one. Y’all forgive my pooch in the pictures from the next few days!

And it’s FRIDAY! And it’s karaoke-time! WAHOO!

Oh, and did anyone catch the reference in the title of the last post? If you did, then you were probably friends with me in the 8th grade.

One more update while I’m doing updates. For those who’ve known me for a while, you will understand that it is HUGELY wonderful news that Hamilton got a real professorship at the University of Leeds for next year. He doesn’t read this blog, so he won’t see your congratulations if you post them here, but you know… if you know him, feel happy for him. This has been a long time coming. If you want his info to send congratulations, let me know, and I’ll hook you up.
