Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Troublemaker

Life is in flux BIG TIME these days. I want to keep in touch with all of my peeps. The Internet is this beautiful thing. I can move to a brand new city and still stay in easy, near-daily contact with the people I love. When I feel connected to the people in my life that matter, I am unstoppable!

E.J. at Murphy’s – You should have gone!

By Abby at 12:06 am on Wednesday, August 10, 2005

E.J. was completely wonderful! What a clear, beautiful voice. Why can’t I go and buy his CD down the block? That seems wrong. Seriously. Makes me want to get my guitars fixed and try and make something of myself. I spent so much of my life training that I never did that creative experimentation other people did. E.J. did it, and he got it right.

I’m so glad I went when I did. I orchestrated it so I was the last customer at Do-Duds (drop-off laundry) and the first at Murphy’s. I shot lots of video on my camera to share. Morgan was there. The two women I’d met from the Queer Action Coalition were there. Chris showed up later, and we talked about music and the origins of Delta tamales. Oh, and E.J. asked me for a request, so I got a little Billy Bragg ("Valentine’s Day is Over"). Thanks, E.J.! I may say more tomorrow if I get around to it, but here are a few pix and a clip.

I’m going. Glad it’s early, too. These last internship days are kicking my ass. There are really only 7 more days of work to go. 😀

The Big Wind-Down

By Abby at 1:44 pm on Monday, August 8, 2005

10 more days of internship. TEN MORE DAYS!!! I will have a Ph.D., a six-figure (yes SIX-figure) student loan debt, and a world of Memphian experience behind me, plus all that stuff I did in Indiana. I can’t believe it’s all finally ending. It’s been a REALLY long year. There’s still so much paperwork to do. Case conceptualizations and logs and evaluations and such. I hate paperwork, and I picked a terrible field for it. We have to document every stupid thing. I’m about to head into supervision. I’m really happy to not have too many more meetings with this one. I can’t go into it, but trust me on this one. I dread every meeting.

Zach Goes Home

By Abby at 1:36 pm on Wednesday, August 3, 2005

If you’ve been paying attention, you probably know that Zach has gone home, and he has posted on his blog again. I was impressed with his response. While amidst a sea of media attention, he said that he does not feel responsible to provide any answers to anyone. I think that’s as it should be. I’m not really concerned with his sexuality. That was never what this was about for me. It’s about allowing people to feel safe and supported while they are dealing with the harrowing identity issues of adolescence. Not just Zach, but anyone. LIA is violating the provisions set forth by my professional organization (APA), as well as many others. I hope people can give Zach some space. Some of the comments on his blog were really insensitive. I’m glad he seems to be coping so well.

The Queer Action Coalition said it best. Read their words.

Finding an Apartment and Other Things

By Abby at 6:50 pm on Sunday, July 31, 2005

This is exactly what Aaron and I did, and it worked beautifully! The only hitch is that sometimes, Bloglines doesn’t update quickly enough. Some mornings, I just went straight to CL. Speaking of hitches, that movie Hitch wasn’t half bad. I don’t see a lot of movies these days, and I was so pleased to not have wasted my time. Thanks, Will Smith. 😛

My parents and Aaron were here this weekend. After Friday’s bash, we spent all day Saturday and half of Sunday packing the place up. They were enormously helpful, although packing is never free of stress. Now the move feels almost manageable, although there is still loads of paperwork to do. Hey, at least I got me some Dish, Blue Plate, and Automatic Slim’s cuisine. Thanks, Mom and Dad!

Sorry for the ramble. So tired. So very, very tired!
