Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Troublemaker

Life is in flux BIG TIME these days. I want to keep in touch with all of my peeps. The Internet is this beautiful thing. I can move to a brand new city and still stay in easy, near-daily contact with the people I love. When I feel connected to the people in my life that matter, I am unstoppable!

Jamaica Plain is So Cool!

By Abby at 9:28 am on Wednesday, November 2, 2005

Aaron and I had so much fun last night. We had an early dinner at Bella Luna. YUM! I was so craving linguini and meatballs, and they totally delivered!

Steve tipped us off on a JP neighborhood meeting at the Milky Way Lounge. It was a cool place, and we got to meet all of our groovy neighbors. Very fun crowd, and there’s apparently tons of community stuff going on: potlucks, caroling, book clubs, running clubs, etc. I liked it a lot and will definitely be watching to see what’s going on. We all had nametags with our first names and our street names, so I was approached by a woman who lives right across the side street and met another woman who owns a townhouse around the corner. Very cool people, and I hope I get to see them again.

Also got to meet Rivera again. He was actually our third "trick or treater" doorbell ring we got on Halloween. I told him that his politician costume was excellent (tee hee). He’s about 30 and originally from Puerto Rico. Steve says he’s for rent control, which is maybe not a good thing, but as a renter, I’m having a little trouble with that concept.

Milky Way Lounge was a cool place. It’s a bar and a candlepin bowling alley. We left as the live band karaoke began. My kind of place.

Oh, and apparently, Carol can be photographed:

As always, there are more pictures on Flickr.

Abby and Aaron Do Triv

By Abby at 6:48 pm on Wednesday, October 26, 2005

Well, it turns out that Stump Pub Trivia is super-fun! I was a little worried it would be all kinds of Boston sports stuff, but that was only one category of questions they asked. We met up with Steve and Carol and Ravi and Sonya at Brendan Behan’s Pub. Ravi went to college with me back in the day, and Steve is a local vlogger whose v/blog I started reading/watching when I knew I was going to be moving to JP. It was a wonderful time with lovely company, and I’m certainly hoping to do it again soon. We didn’t win, but we tied for second place, which ain’t too shabby. Our team’s name was "Tlog" as in blog but with a "t" for trivia, which was Steve’s idea. Go Team Tlog! w00t!

I was probably overly flash avoidant with the ole camera, but nothing I hate more than flashy flashy in my face when I’m in a dark bar. I opted for socially good behavior with grainier pictures. Hope you don’t mind.

Carol was photographed only as a blur. She dutifully turned in our awesome answers each time.

Here’s me thinking hard.

Ravi, Steve, and my nose. See how happy?

Completely Lovely Weekend

By Abby at 8:33 pm on Sunday, October 23, 2005

So I whined a little online and then ended up having the most wonderful weekend. We had all these plans that fell through last week, which kind of sucked, but it all turned around. We went to the Common yesterday for this pumpkin thing. Of course, it rained, as it always does whenever we go outside. We trecked there, saw some pumpkins, then hopped a train to Cambridge and got some grub and Mr and Mrs Bartley’s by the Harvard Book Store. Love that place. After that, we walked to Steve and Linda’s house, where we played Sudoku and drank a few beers, played with the kiddies, talked, and Aaron and Linda made this FABULOUS chicken pot pie. When I’m feeling less lazy, I’ll post a picture. SOOOO good. After that, Aaron made peanut butter cookies. YUM! We actually made contact with Scott and Michelle, two of my very favorite people from grad school. They had been out of town a lot, and the excellent news is that they don’t hate us. Yay! We met them for breakfast in Slumma-ville at the tastiest place EVAR. After that, we had a fine time at Target and got groceries. Oh, and we got to pass over the Charles a few times. We spotted a few boats out for the Head of the Charles. Fun times.

I’ve been writing reports for few the last few hours. LAME! I’m so sick of reports it’s insane, but what are you gonna do? Report-writing is my bag, baby. Now it’s time for Desperate Housewives. Another busy work week looms, but I’m going to trivia, AND my parents are coming, so it’s gonna be fun times. Wahoo! Shit! Forgot to call Carl back. I suck these days. I really do. If I haven’t called, it’s not hatred. It really isn’t. It’s the work! Hard and exhausting, yet rewarding. Better than having no purpose, I guess.

There was actually a good hour or two the first day we got to the B&B when it wasn’t raining

The first morning we were there, this is what we awoke to – the clouds rolling in over the mountain. Grey, but lovely!

Luckily, we located some candy while on the trip
