Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Troublemaker

Life is in flux BIG TIME these days. I want to keep in touch with all of my peeps. The Internet is this beautiful thing. I can move to a brand new city and still stay in easy, near-daily contact with the people I love. When I feel connected to the people in my life that matter, I am unstoppable!

Peaches and Bonnaroo

By Abby at 2:37 pm on Friday, June 15, 2007

Today is supposed to be a study day. So far, not much done. It’s been an incredibly productive week in that arena though. I realized that since I’m going to this networking dinner for local psychologists tonight, I really should make some business cards to pass out, so I did that. And then I edited some pictures I took of my breakfast. (I know, but wait until you see how great the pictures are!) And now I’ve found that Cold War Kids are being livestreamed from Bonnaroo, and MAN, I love them. I think I’m going to put in some study time tomorrow on what is supposed to be my day off. I’m still plenty pleased with my discipline this week. Go me.

Bedbugs

By Abby at 8:00 pm on Friday, March 16, 2007

//farm1.static.flickr.com/42/81632154_cb654fe689_mLast night, I got into bed and slept. I’d say I had a good night. I definitely slept tight. But you know what? I let the bedbugs bite! I don’t now how it happened, but I have now learned that one of two things happened:

Option 1: One bedbug crawled into my underwear and bit me 8 times on the ass

Option 2: Eight bedbugs crawled into my underwear and each bit me once on the ass

This does not please me. I wonder if it was that moth that made its way in as Katy left. However it went down, EUW!

In other news, Katy, I’m making Perciatelli again. If you wanna come get some grub before we head out, please do! But please, for the love of dog, don’t let the moths in!

What’s a Grit?

By Abby at 12:04 pm on Thursday, November 9, 2006

Got this in my inbox this morning from the Boston editor at Citysearch. It began by suggesting activities for getting out on this, “our last nice weekend”, then went on to suggest a nice bowl of grits!

Speaking in both geographic and culinary terms, Boston’s about as far away from the Deep South as one can get. With the weather cooling off, transplanted southerners might find themselves jonesing for a steaming bowl of grits. You might say to yourself “what’s a grit?” but a few local spots are in the know and serve them with aplomb.

Magnolia’s Southern Cuisine, a taste of New Orleans in East Cambridge, is famous for its Hoppin’ Shavonne. In this version of the black-eyed pea dish “Hoppin’ John,” the rice is replaced with stone-ground cheese grits and topped with Parmigiano-Reggiano and garlic-marinated tomatoes. In the South End, the Metropolis Café’s popular brunch service always includes grits with one of its dishes (possibly huevos rancheros or spicy chorizo). For a more conventional taste of the south, enjoy a live jazz Sunday brunch with a classic combination of grits, biscuits, and fried chicken at Bob’s Southern Bistro. If you’re on the other side of the Charles, Somerville’s Johnny D’s also has a jazz brunch on Sundays that offers grits.

So the next time you roll out of bed to a chill in the air, skip grandma’s oatmeal and give grits a try.

Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Pumpkin Carver

By Abby at 9:30 am on Tuesday, October 17, 2006

So it’s a little long (10 minutes), but if nothing else, watch the first two for the new and viral Halloween song by yours truly! 😀

A few things to add: I worry that the Ramadan silliness may be taken the wrong way. We’d already been talking about the problem with making Halloween sacred, and we’d turned to a discussion of how silly it would be to make sacred holidays non-sacred. I think I tend to edit in a strictly chronological way since I’m such a beginnier. It took so long to get it the way it is that by the time I realized it would make more sense a little out of order, I’d completely run out of steam!

I also wanted to share a few pictures of the resulting food that came from this lovely pumpkin:
