Allergies

My eyes are killing me. My allergies have been sooooo bad lately. With me, it’s all about the itchy eyes and fuzzy head. I don’t usually get a stuffy nose, which is good, I guess. Still, the eye thing is so annoying. It’s nearly impossible not to rub them.

At the bookstore this weekend, I picked up a book about skincare and dermatology and looked up "dark undereye circles." I’ve assumed all year that they were related to lack of sleep, but hell, I haven’t been sleeping enough for a while now, and the circles just popped up last summer. Apparently, the main cause of dark undereye circles is allergies, which completely makes sense. The rubbing breaks blood vessels and basically, you end up giving yourself a slow black eye… at least that was Aaron’s take on it. I think he might be right. My eyes aren’t puffy, and there aren’t bags. Just dark ugliness. I hate it. I want them to go away, but I’m already taking Zyrtec. I don’t know what else to try. It’s pissing me off!

Ugh, i feel your pain!

I never got “spring allergies” until i moved to Memphis. I have had the WORST case of ….”effed-uppedness” this year. I woke up one day with a head STUFFED,i mean STUFFED, no breathing whatsoever thru my nose. This went on for a week, and nothing worked to unstuff it. i took 3 different kinds of decongestant and allergy meds. Finally i used some kind of spray (afrin i think) and it worked! unfortuneatly it all drained into my chest and i started having respiratory issues…like, cough attacks which led to asthma like attacks ( i don’t have asthma). It would last for hours where i had trouble catching my breath, and wheezing in my chest. This combined with itchy eyes and throat and the inside of my ears. Finally went to the doc. and he said i had bronchitis, which may have been the case, but it was mixed with allergies…NIGHTMARE….finally a month later, i’m feeling better, but still not 100%….

I love Memphis. grrrrrrrrr……

Yeah, Memphis is great! LOL. 😛

There are REALLY high rates of asthma here. For me, I don’t even get very stuffy (OK, a little), but my eyes. Ugh!

Rankings of cities I’m interested in from Worst Cities for Spring Allergies

20. Atlanta (last year: 1)
24. Memphis, Tenn. (last year: 28)
33. Indianapolis (last year: 33)
47. Boston (last year: 32)
51. Nashville, Tenn. (last year: 15)

At least Boston is a lot better than Memphis, but I’d still like to see it a lot lower on the list. I mean, the skin under my eyes is purple! It’s PURPLE!!!!! I’m a purple monster!

I’m educating myself to see if I can beat these suckers. I don’t like ’em, I tell you!

For someone who just started with allergies about 10 yrs ago, I can relate to your itchy eyes. I have the prescription med Panatol which I use only when one or both eyes are red (if you don’t have insurance, it’s about $84). What really helps is the ‘tears only’ over the counter eye drops. I used the kind ‘to get the red out’ and was told never to use it again as it was giving me a rebound effect.
I usually have Mat’s problem, but I use BioAllers nasal spray from GNC or Flonase to keep my head clear. If that doesn’t work I use Sudafed or Allavert. This is from years of trying to figure out good combos to help give me relief. And drink lots of water too. : )

Ungh. I know the pain. I had allergy shots weekly as a kid. Outgrew the allergies but got asthma in its place (diagnosed at 20). I hit my Advair like a bong twice a day, have a rescue inhaler, and sometimes it doesn’t seem to be enough. When the weather gets really hot, I just stay inside as much as possible.

I get the dry eyes instead, which ended my contact lens-wearing career forever. Mmm, sticky eyes!

We should meet up again sometime soon!

Some people seem to grow “out” of allergies…some grow “in” to them as they get worse as you get ‘older –and worse effects (note: i am getting ‘older…not OLD).

The BEST thing I EVER did was see an allergist and begin a program (shots for as much stuff as I tested positive for and could treat: Dog/Cat; Mold/Dustmites; Grasses and Ragweed) plus taking the Claritin & Nasonex. I’m ‘almost” done – it’s between a 4-5 yr program – of building tolerance. But a HUGE benefit overall. Can’t cure the food allergies or fragrance ones or substances like smokey rooms…but it’s worth it. Just to KNOW the exact things specific to your allergies helps know what to avoid or treat.

And less “baggy eye syndrome” TOO! LOL
