My 200 Blocked Facebook Applications

By Abby at 11:35 am on Thursday, March 5, 2009

I love Facebook. I know a lot of people who don’t. One obvious reason for this is that I LOVE connecting with people I knew long ago. I think it’s fascinating. Also, I love connecting people I know to other people I know. I’m a connection-gal. If you know me, you know that’s true. The OTHER reason I believe that I love Facebook much more than other people is my quick tendency to click BLOCK APPLICATION whenever I see a new invite for yet another application. My friend Patrick posted a list of all the applications he’s blocked. I did the same thing and was amazed to find that I have blocked 200 applications! Here they are:

If you want to do this and see how many applications you’ve blocked, here are the instructions:

Go to SETTINGS | PRIVACY SETTINGS | APPLICATIONS | SETTINGS. Scroll down to see all Blocked Applications. If your list is short, you probably hate Facebook, unless you have LOTS of free time and are wildly interested in silly games.

Interesting! Do you know what happens when you have an app blocked? I mean in terms of someone sending you an invitation to it. Do they get any kind of notification that you’ve blocked that app and their silly little request (to suck their lollipop, for instance) will not be received by the intended recipient? Just curious.

They are not notified that you blocked it, and you will never receive another invitation from that app again.

I guess I’ve gotten so used to just hitting ignore that I never considered hitting block. Thanks for pointing this out. I’m blocking that lil green patch bitch for good!

Last time I checked I was approaching 300 blocked apps. Another good thing about blocking applications is you don’t see anything about them in your Live Feed section. No more “Bob threw a moldy bread stick at Jane” filling up the whole screen. Now if I could just figure out how to block Digg, StumbleUpon, Last.fm, etc. I think those may be unblockable?

Totally awesome! I love the block button. It’s my best FB friend. Maybe I should “Become a Fan of”

Go to http://www.facebook.com/notifications.php and look over on the right. There’s a lot of unchecking to be done. I NEVER see Digg or Stumble Upon.

i usually let them pile up then hit ignore about once or twice a month. but “block”…what a novel concept.

Hey Abby, on my notifications page there is no mention of Digg or any of those others. The only applications I’ve authorized are Friends, Groups, Photos, Wall, Feed Comments, and Likes. That’s it. I think those sites I mentioned are doing that Beacon thing where my friends’ activity on those sites shows up on FB in my feed. In fact, I thought I saw one or two things that you did, I’m pretty sure you “Liked” a track on Last.fm and it showed up in my feed.

Mine is on there…that’s ok…I am getting rather tired of most of the ones I get and can’t keep up with them.
