Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Troublemaker

Life is in flux BIG TIME these days. I want to keep in touch with all of my peeps. The Internet is this beautiful thing. I can move to a brand new city and still stay in easy, near-daily contact with the people I love. When I feel connected to the people in my life that matter, I am unstoppable!

A Rare Jobhunting Update

By Abby at 10:16 pm on Tuesday, February 12, 2008

Things have been much more active on the job front. Having a license has me in the door in many more ways. I’ve been very busy with meetings, applications, and a conference. It gets tricky now talking about this on my blog, because I can’t say where I have interviews. I can’t say who I’m talking to, but I can say this. I have an interview lined up next week for a place that would be OK, but not a place I’m really excited about. There is another place I am MUCH more excited about, so I decided to stop by there today. I happened in at a time when I was able to meet their top dog. This person was a delight, and the conversation we had made me feel so very excited about the possibility of getting this position, I can’t even tell you. Fingers very crossed. The process might be a little slower than I’d like, but I can definitely see this one working out. That would be great. Not only is it a better match for me in terms of interests, it’s also much closer and would start in the near (not remote) future. It’s probably not the highest paying job among the options, but if it’s really fulfilling, then that’s a very good thing to me. My priorities have never leaned as much towards money as towards fulfillment. Several of the possibilities I have right now are in other towns or don’t start for a while, OR they are practices where I’d be under a lot of pressure to build up a practice quickly without a steady stream of referrals. Anyway, send good vibes my way. This could be a great opportunity for me – a place I might want to stay for a long while.

The Scheider Tribute Continues

By Abby at 2:52 pm on Tuesday, February 12, 2008

Now, I have to admit that my obsession is really with Scheider in All That Jazz, not all of Scheider, but still… I’m going with it. It was a stupendous performance. Two more things to share. First, you MUST go check out Jason’s tribute to “Uncle Roy”. It’s thorough as hell with tons of clips:

My Own Private Scheider

And another clip I must share. Hell, it’s not even all about him, but damn, I love this movie:

On an unrelated note, the comments are way down here, but the hits keep on coming. Lots of you are reading, just not commenting. I’m OK with that. I see you there! And the number of times in a week people start talking to me about my posts still amazes me. So enjoy, whether you talk or not. I appreciate the interest!

Bye Bye Life (R.I.P. Roy Scheider)

By Abby at 3:06 pm on Monday, February 11, 2008

I’ve watched Roy Scheider acting out the theme of death over and over and over again, many MANY times. Why? Because I don’t know him best from Jaws. I know him best from All That Jazz. If you’ve never seen this movie, now is the time. I think people who don’t know what it is imagine that it’s a flashy Broadway musical. There’s a small element of that, but this is a brilliant film. It’s directed by Bob Fosse, and it’s a biography of his own life (and eventual death). Anyone who doesn’t like this film maybe just doesn’t get it. So anyway, without further ado, here’s Roy Scheider saying bye bye to life. It’s a celebration, tongue-in-cheek, but about as powerful as it gets. I had actually just watched this movie again last month.

Update: OMG, just came across a video a friend of mine made. I knew he was a big Roy Scheider fan, particularly All That Jazz, so I logged on to Tribe to see what kind of tribute he had going. Apparently, he’d coincidentally just finished making this video when he found out about Roy Scheider’s death. Check out All That Jaws:

Love it? DIGG IT!

Kimya Dawson Sings “Alphabutt”

By Abby at 7:39 pm on Wednesday, February 6, 2008

It was a few weeks ago, and while I’ve posted a couple of pictures, I’ve been feeling bad that I hadn’t gotten around to posting any video. But yay for the internet! And yay for this guy/girl who posted much better quality of video than I was taking that day (my memory card was nearly full) and many songs.

If you don’t know who Kimya Dawson is, then the easy answer is that she’s a singer who was in a band called Moldy Peaches, and her songs were used a lot on the soundtrack for the movie Juno. If you haven’t seen that, then I feel sorry for you.

I loved this song she sang that day. It is a song called Alphabutt, which she wrote for her not-yet-released children’s album:
