Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Troublemaker

Life is in flux BIG TIME these days. I want to keep in touch with all of my peeps. The Internet is this beautiful thing. I can move to a brand new city and still stay in easy, near-daily contact with the people I love. When I feel connected to the people in my life that matter, I am unstoppable!

I’m Cured!

By Abby at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, February 13, 2008

For the last few years (since Memphis, now that I think about it), I have have a recurring problem with my wrist. I have assumed it was due to overuse of the computer, so I slap a wrist brace on for a few days, and it gets a tad better… a tad. I even stopped doing yoga because of it. I thought it was maybe early arthritis or tendonitis or carpal tunnel or something. Today I finally saw the hand specialist. Guess what! It’s just a ganglia cyst. I got a cortisone shot in my wrist. “How often to I have to get these?” I asked. “Just today.” In disbelief, I clarify, “And then it’s better forever?” “Should be.” !!!

How often does that happen? One shot fixes this long-term problem. That’s all I needed. Dang. Maybe western medicine DOES have something to offer me. I’m always so skeptical.

I have one of those!

Unfortunately, the cortisone shot did NOTHING! It really depends on how big the cyst is and whether or not they pop it with the needle when they’re giving you the injection. I’ll have to have surgery eventually. Which will mean six weeks in a cast and physical therapy afterward. It will also mean no photography during that timespan, which will drive me quite insane.

No, but the man said I’m cured! Can’t I be cured?!

Yes, you can be. Your dad used to pop the cysts manually. I’ve seen him do it. It causes a minute of pain, then poof. It’s over. I suspect Captainslack is correct. It probably depends on the size of the cyst.

Was he supposed to pop it? Because he didn’t. It’s still there.

If you’re feeling good, then he probably cured it. Be glad!!

I get the feeling from your blog rules you don’t like dumb questions, so please don’t snub this amateur. Why do you say “no more pictures like these” when you caught such a beautiful image of your friend? I’ve put your gallery on my to do list today and look forward to viewing it. Thanks for sharing your work. ~ND

I field that question Nettie D. In the above pix, the proactive busy body is wearing a wrist device on her left hand. I feel that capturing a “beautiful image” will not be something that we will miss.

Xophie’s got it! Beautiful images with friends, yes. But NO MORE WRIST BRACES! Here’s hoping, anyway!

I surely hope it was the magic shot. I’ve got the “trigger thumb” and had the corto but no go. So on to the surgery we go. Yay fun meds on the way.
