Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Troublemaker

Life is in flux BIG TIME these days. I want to keep in touch with all of my peeps. The Internet is this beautiful thing. I can move to a brand new city and still stay in easy, near-daily contact with the people I love. When I feel connected to the people in my life that matter, I am unstoppable!

Update on the Whiny Stuff: Things are Looking Up

By Abby at 4:21 pm on Monday, January 15, 2007

I wrote this earlier, but I was writing it directly into the dashboard using Internet Explorer since I couldn’t get Firefox to launch, and all of a sudden, it just closed, with all of my tabs. God, I hate IE. Anyway, wanted to update about all my whinings, since you don’t want to bitch and moan, then not follow-up when stuff starts getting better again. It was just the conglomeration of irritants yesterday. It wasn’t good. So, with that in mind, here are the improvements:

  • I found the Target stuff! I had taken individual items out of the bag and placed then in a stack on a closet shelf, and even though I’d looked around in that general vicinity more than once, it was camogflaged to me somehow. Hoorah!
  • Knives are still MIA, but I will find them soon.
  • The toothache isn’t gone, but my dad has called in an antibiotic so I can get this infection under control, and a few locals have offered dentist recs, so I should be addressing the pain and the core problem soon.
  • Firefox is working! I ended up going in using Safe Mode and uninstalling some extensions and Greasemonkey scripts, and it’s all better.

So all is much improved from yesterday. Now to address this insomnia. I need a book or a pill or something. Grrrr.

My Friend Joseph has Impeccable Karma!

By Abby at 1:19 am on Monday, January 15, 2007

What a great idea! Joseph (of JP Neighbors for Neighbors fame) has resolved to wear a name tag for the whole year. He’s a connector and loves meeting strangers just like me, but he brings it to a “whole nother level”. He’s another of JP’s local treasures. I love his idea. Go Joseph!

JP Contingent

Update: A new article about it.

Whine-fest

By Abby at 4:47 pm on Sunday, January 14, 2007

Sorry I keep whining, but I need to get this out:

  • One of the bags of stuff I bought at Target is NOWHERE! I have looked everywhere. One of the things it had was a heart rate monitor, which I bought on major sale. I’m a big concerned about overdoing it at the gym after that whole tachycardia thing last year.
  • Where is the box with my beautiful Henckels knives. WHERE? I can’t take this cheap-ass knife another day. I long to cook a proper meal!
  • The toothache is weird. It’s become sort of a whole right side of the face ache, and I’m starting to have significant trouble chewing. Weird thing is that the gum above my tooth that was hurting isn’t hurting much anymore. Not that I have a local doctor or dentist, but if I did, which would I go to?
  • Firefox won’t launch. I’ve restarted, uninstalled and reinstalled and restarted, removed a bunch of software and restarted, done virus scans, spyware scans, reduced lots of space on the hard drive, restarted again and again. Where did it go?
  • Probably due to intense insomnia, I’m starting to have vertigo again.

Promise I’m generally happy, but sometimes these little things REALLY add up. Gotta whine them out so I stop focusing on them. No solutions needed, venting accomplished (although if you have seen my Target bag or know how to get FF working, pipe up!

Move-In Ramble

By Abby at 2:22 am on Saturday, January 13, 2007

Time to ramble!

I was feeling just fine a few hours ago, but now I have a stomachache, a headache, and a toothache. None severe, but all annoying. The toothache has been brewing, and I’ve been hoping that it might go away on its own, but I’m afraid it is not to be. Usually when I go to the dentist, my parents are out a couple thou!

Yesterday, everything I own arrived at my apartment. I unpacked several boxes today. As a result, I just ate pasta from a REAL BOWL! I mean, I guess the other bowl I bought it real, but it’s not ceramic. It’s some plasticky substance you can throw at the floor, and it doesn’t break. Having one bowl, one plate, one glass, and one mug is not as fun as you might think.

I’ve decided that jewel cases take up too much space, and since I have probably about a thousand CD’s to house, I’ve decided to throw all these unnecessary jewel cases away. I’m jettisoning the part of the paper that is encased in the back of the case - takes too long to take the case apart. Anyway, nowadays, the pyooter just tells me which track is which. Honestly, for the discs I really love, either I know which tracks I like OR I like the whole thing beginning to end. Over the years, I have gotten rid of many of the discs that had only one song I liked. My solution: I’ve ordered a pack of 1,000 ricepaper sleeves for $40 and 4 heavy cardboard CD boxes for $3.20 each. Not bad, huh?

I know this is dull, but I’m usually such a regular blogger, and I’ve been a little “off” lately, not sleeping well, and not exactly sure what to do next. That said, I’m pretty happy socially. I’m meeting new people and am remaining in touch with the old favorites in Boston. That’s what I was hoping for, and so far, so good. I just wanted to stay in touch with my readers and satisfy those who have been whining about the excessive number of tech posts. You know who you are, LOOZAHS!!!
