Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Troublemaker

Life is in flux BIG TIME these days. I want to keep in touch with all of my peeps. The Internet is this beautiful thing. I can move to a brand new city and still stay in easy, near-daily contact with the people I love. When I feel connected to the people in my life that matter, I am unstoppable!

So my desktop computer is one that my ex put together for me. It has no sound card. No really. It really doesn’t have a sound card. I have checked. Now what do I need to know to buy one? Can I just buy this, install it, and expect it to work? Is there any reason to drop any money on such a thing? Seems to me it’s the speakers that matter the most.

The speakers and the sound card are both important. The sound card controls the quality of the signal the speakers receive. So even if you have the greatest speakers in the world, if they are receiving a shitty signal you get shitty sound. That sound card will probably be fine if you just want to hear one person’s voice or one instrument. But if you want to listen to “complicated” sounds like bands that play more than one instrument or differentiate between foreground and background sounds, then this card will probably not be good enough for you. Since you like to listen to CD’s I would spend at least $20 on a sound card if I were you.
