Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Troublemaker

Life is in flux BIG TIME these days. I want to keep in touch with all of my peeps. The Internet is this beautiful thing. I can move to a brand new city and still stay in easy, near-daily contact with the people I love. When I feel connected to the people in my life that matter, I am unstoppable!

HAHAHAHA!

I’m not sure I fully understand the TIVO thing or what the pictures of Aaron in a silly hat and that lovely butt have to do with it. However, I recorded a show on Tuesday or Wednesday night and watched half of it. This morning I wanted to finish watching it, and it was gone! Could this be part of the same problem?

By the way, I have pictures of you that you might not want posted. Better watch out.

“That guy totally linked to my mom’s butt!!”

Out of context this is, I suspect, something your parents ever want to hear. Just a tip there, sista.

That is supposed to say “never want to hear.” Migraines make me stoooopid.

Haha. Funny stuff, V. 😀

I’m delegating again by asking Aaron to answer your TiVo question.

Aaron’s on Boing Boing! Aaron’s on Boing Boing!!!

Abby’s Mom,
What you experienced is probably more likely due to the Tivo running low on space or deleting a show because you had too many episodes of the same show.

This new flag (that was originally linked here by accident but can now be seen here) is about a new feature Tivo has added so that stations can tell the Tivo when to delete programs. You will note these special programs by the red flag on the info and “Now Playing” screens.

The way this works is as follows. If you record The Soprano’s on Sunday night, HBO could make sure your Tivo deletes that episode before the next episode airs the following week. They reportedly want to do this for things like Pay Per view or “premium” programming like the Sopranos.

Of course, this means if you go on vacation for 10 days during a show like that, you can’t see all the episodes. Or you can’t “get behind” on a series and watch at your leisure.

In a nutshell, Hollywood has used leverage over Tivo and technology to try to find a way around the fair use of television programs that were established by the Supreme Court in the Betamax decision.

My experience may have been a fluke but it is a bad omen and a sign of things to come.

Thanks, Aaron. I was hoping if I ignored the proposed TIVO changes they wouldn’t occur. As for my problem, neither suggestion you made would have been the culprit. I suspect human error was more likely. I was a very jet-lagged and probably deleted it by accident.
