Nerdy Tips

By Abby at 12:45 pm on Friday, July 1, 2005

After reading this nerdy tip describing how to save a todo list on your digital camera, I added my own little tip (we call ’em "lifehacks" in nerdland):

You know what I did? I can’t ever remember how to use the timer feature on my digital camera, so I printed out the instructions for that single function in REALLY big font on my computer screen, took a picture, then locked the picture so it doesn’t delete when I clear all the pix from my camera. That way, whenever I have my camera, I have the instructions I need.

(Of course, the picture sucks because I had to take it with my cameraphone, but you get the idea.)

Also, in the spirit of friendly, nerdy helpfulness, I offer you this article on How to Photograph Fireworks.

I use that for shopping … write the stuff down, or key it on the computer, then snap a photo … first time I though people would look funny at me, walking down supermarket aisles looking into my phone, but I guess they’ve seen worse.

you can even snap addresses and driving direction, not exactly Google Maps, but good enough

Well, it may be old technology, but I leave myself messages on our answering machine. Similar thing…

Hee. Very fun. I’ve also been photographing my books and CDs. I remember when I had the fire in 1991, it was VERY helpful to have a little inventory done.

Cool! Although the meta-ness of my using this screen to view your camera screen’s image of your computer screen is a leeeetle dizzy-making 😀

Your site is a refreshing change from the majority of sites I have visited. When I first started visiting web sites I was excited by the potential of the internet as a resource and was very disappointed initially. You have restored my enthusiasm and I thank you for your efforts to share your insights and help the world become a better place.
