Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Troublemaker

Life is in flux BIG TIME these days. I want to keep in touch with all of my peeps. The Internet is this beautiful thing. I can move to a brand new city and still stay in easy, near-daily contact with the people I love. When I feel connected to the people in my life that matter, I am unstoppable!

Joss Stone on Soundstage

By Abby at 6:19 pm on Wednesday, November 8, 2006
Usually with artists I love, I have a friend or two into them, too. But as far as I know, I’m alone in my complete love for Joss Stone. Yeah, she’s 19, way too pretty, and English. But the “woman” has some SERIOUS soul. I’ve had this Soundstage performance on my TiVo for forever. Today, I finally converted it to a version I can keep forever on my desktop. I decided in a moment of kindness to share an MP3 of the full concert with the world. Not sure anyone I know will want this, but maybe somebody will be interested. If you haven’t heard her, grab it and listen. I think you’ll be surprised at how freakin’ good she is.

Download MP3 file of Joss Stone on PBS “Soundstage” with Special Guest Mavis Staples (originally premiered 10/6/2005)

For more information about this performance, see the Soundstage site.

Emack & Bolio’s Gone for Now

By Abby at 10:17 am on Wednesday, November 8, 2006

Emack & Bolios
I saw on Universal Hub that Emack & Bolio’s looked closed. I emailed the shop, and this is what I heard back:

Thanks for your email. At the present time the shop is closed. I am sorry for any inconvenience this has caused you. It is our intention to reopen the shop early spring after we have made some changes to both our product line and the shop itself. I hope to see you there at that time.

Weird. Last time I was in there, I noticed that they were about to start charging for WiFi, which I was bummed about.

Enjoy My OCD Daylight Graphs

By Abby at 4:43 pm on Tuesday, November 7, 2006
Yesterday, I was freaking out about my move, so I did what I often do when I’m nervous about something: I found a repetitive, menial research task which took up about half of my cognitive resources. Basically, I busied myself. So I ended up looking up the sunrise and sunset times of Boston and Raleigh. Here’s what I learned: Boston doesn’t really have less daylight than Raleigh. It’s just on the wrong side of the time zone. Boston has good daylight, but in the early morning hours when I couldn’t care less. Raleigh has that all-important post-work daylight, which I really need to remain a happy Abby. Enjoy my OCD graphs.
