Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Troublemaker

Life is in flux BIG TIME these days. I want to keep in touch with all of my peeps. The Internet is this beautiful thing. I can move to a brand new city and still stay in easy, near-daily contact with the people I love. When I feel connected to the people in my life that matter, I am unstoppable!

Move-In Ramble

By Abby at 2:22 am on Saturday, January 13, 2007

Time to ramble!

I was feeling just fine a few hours ago, but now I have a stomachache, a headache, and a toothache. None severe, but all annoying. The toothache has been brewing, and I’ve been hoping that it might go away on its own, but I’m afraid it is not to be. Usually when I go to the dentist, my parents are out a couple thou!

Yesterday, everything I own arrived at my apartment. I unpacked several boxes today. As a result, I just ate pasta from a REAL BOWL! I mean, I guess the other bowl I bought it real, but it’s not ceramic. It’s some plasticky substance you can throw at the floor, and it doesn’t break. Having one bowl, one plate, one glass, and one mug is not as fun as you might think.

I’ve decided that jewel cases take up too much space, and since I have probably about a thousand CD’s to house, I’ve decided to throw all these unnecessary jewel cases away. I’m jettisoning the part of the paper that is encased in the back of the case – takes too long to take the case apart. Anyway, nowadays, the pyooter just tells me which track is which. Honestly, for the discs I really love, either I know which tracks I like OR I like the whole thing beginning to end. Over the years, I have gotten rid of many of the discs that had only one song I liked. My solution: I’ve ordered a pack of 1,000 ricepaper sleeves for $40 and 4 heavy cardboard CD boxes for $3.20 each. Not bad, huh?

I know this is dull, but I’m usually such a regular blogger, and I’ve been a little “off” lately, not sleeping well, and not exactly sure what to do next. That said, I’m pretty happy socially. I’m meeting new people and am remaining in touch with the old favorites in Boston. That’s what I was hoping for, and so far, so good. I just wanted to stay in touch with my readers and satisfy those who have been whining about the excessive number of tech posts. You know who you are, LOOZAHS!!!

Everything I Own

By Abby at 11:38 am on Thursday, January 11, 2007

Today, a truck arrives from Boston carrying everything I own! If anyone from Raleigh is bored this weekend and wants to spend an hour or two helping me unpack, I will cook you food and owe you one. 😀

In Case You Missed It: The Subway Superman

By Abby at 1:21 am on Wednesday, January 10, 2007

I was surprised at how many people missed this story, so just in case…

The guy seems very cool, too. Just did his thing, and I love how he explained on Letterman what he heard in his head before he jumped down to save the guy, “I was thinking someone has to save him. Fool, YOU have to save him”. Click that last link and watch it. I mean, just watch that graphic. Unreal!

Mozart Means I Can’t Go Kart

By Abby at 12:57 am on Tuesday, January 9, 2007

I think my Dad summed it up well on the phone:

You went and sang Mozart for a man, and now you don’t get to go Go Kart Racing.

Today was a big day. It was the first day of THE BIG JOB HUNT. I contacted two people and re-found many of the files I had ready for this big day. Once guy actually called back. Although his practice can’t add new clinicians right now because of space, he’s willing to meet with me to help me identify some appropriate place to apply.

Tonight I had a successful audition for local choir (honestly, I’m a bit overqualified for choirs because of all my training, but that’s where I want to be, so that’s where I go!). This means I can’t join a local group that is going Go Kart Racing because choir rehearsal is on the same night. I’m actually pretty bummed about it. I’ve always wanted to do that. I also can’t join in the Flickr group’s monthly Tuesday event OR the local blogger Tuesday get togethers OR the Karaoke Meetups on Tuesdays. How did all these event end up on Tuesday? What’s wrong with Wednesday?!

One day, I will go Go Kart Racing. Who’s with me?! Maybe I can get those Flickr people to join me. They seem up for anything, although it might be hard to drive and shoot. Maybe we can take turns.

The Damnedest Thing!

By Abby at 11:06 pm on Sunday, January 7, 2007

OK, so do you remember, dear readers, that I had a dead iPod problem? I thought I’d give it one last go before tossing it out for scrap, and I came across this suggestion on Ask Metafilter:

My iPod, about the same age as yours, did the same thing a few months ago. One piece of advice that I found online was to drop it on a hard surface from a few inches (once you’ve determined that its not going to get any more dead). I ended up whacking the hell out of it on my desk and restoring the software. I was mostly doing so out of frustration, but after several whacks, it worked. According to the comments on the page that suggesting this iPod abuse, this seemed to be a miracle cure for many.

Now, it’s started to go out sporadically again. I’m sick of all my music anyway.

I was trying to take pictures of the various images the poor little screen was showing. I saw a little frowny faced iPod once that I couldn’t recapture. I decided that since it was clearly a ueless little pile of metal, I’d try the old Fonzie trick the Metafilter guy had suggested. Well damned if that shit didn’t totally work! Now I’m left with a moral dilemma. Do I sell if on eBay while it works? Or do something else all together (something else I can’t exactly imagine).
