Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Troublemaker

Life is in flux BIG TIME these days. I want to keep in touch with all of my peeps. The Internet is this beautiful thing. I can move to a brand new city and still stay in easy, near-daily contact with the people I love. When I feel connected to the people in my life that matter, I am unstoppable!

Cracking Myself Up & Making Lists

By Abby at 6:11 pm on Thursday, August 11, 2005

My review of Do-Duds has gone LIVE! 😛

Also, anyone know of good affordable movers? I need to hire a coupla people to help me move these antiques I inherited from my folks, so they need to be good/experienced.

Also also, I’m keeping a little list of places I must go and things I must do before I leave town. Here’s the short first run:

  • BBQ Tofu Nachos at Tracks
  • Dish – Just again, because it was awesome
  • Karaoke. How have I not even one time karaoked in Memphis?
  • Neely’s BBQ – Somehow I never made it there
  • Delta tamales – somewhere – or one from P&H will do

I’m taking suggestions, too.

If you have decided to rent a truck, load and drive yourself, ask the rental outfit to let you borrow the “Moving Tips” video. If they don’t have one, find a rental outfit that does. It should be free as you return it when you either pick up the truck or drop it at destination. It’s well worth the time in front of the TV, though you might think a lot of it infantile. The info you have already will be reinforced and you will probably get SOME new guides.
Good luck.

I’ve rented a truck, and this is something I’ve done many times. I’ve loaded before many times before, too. It’s just that I don’t know as many people here AND this time, I have many antiques I need to load. So I’m still looking for movers for a few hours on the load day.

I’m not above asking my fellow bloggers to help with boxes, but not with this heavy antique furniture. Now that I have that, I want some help. We will be doing a LOT of driving over the few days after we pack, and I don’t want to be exhausted and sore the whole time.

I hesitate to suggest contacting temporary agencies like Manpower or the various labor contractors or the union halls as that’s sorta like getting a pig in a poke. But, as a last resort… I remember my last, and hopefully final, move was accomplished with a rental truck and friends. Cost the price of the truck, lunch and beer. Well worth the expense for the camaraderie. Then there’s the problem of unloading which was not a problem with us as we were a local move affair. Glad my moves are in the past. Good luck though. Wish I had more favorable ideas.
