Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Troublemaker

Life is in flux BIG TIME these days. I want to keep in touch with all of my peeps. The Internet is this beautiful thing. I can move to a brand new city and still stay in easy, near-daily contact with the people I love. When I feel connected to the people in my life that matter, I am unstoppable!

Flickr is Getting Cooler

By Abby at 5:42 pm on Tuesday, May 16, 2006

Went on Flickr today, as I do every day. It seems their cool interface has gotten a little bit cooler still. Go ahead, poke around! You can perhaps best view the changes by heading to a page two or three of a photostream. It’s got even more Web-Two-Point-O-y Goodness than it had yesterday.

Help Me with My iTunes Disaster!

By Abby at 5:25 pm on Monday, April 17, 2006

My iTunes situation is beyond fucked. I began with one medium-sized problem, and I’ve grown it into a mammoth problem. If you consider yourself an expert on iTunes in any capacity, please consider reading this Ask MeFi thread, and if you have any ideas, please contact me. I’m in dire need of tech support, and I’m running out of ideas. You will sense my frustration in my last few comments.

He Blew it Up

By Abby at 5:36 am on Monday, April 10, 2006

Many months ago, I donated a small amount of money to this guy who said that if he received enough donations to buy himself a G5, he’d blow up his G4 (that’s a Mac upgrade for my fellow PC people). Well, last night while I was sleeping, I got an e-mail from him. He did it!

I’ve Glued Myself Together

By Abby at 6:12 pm on Sunday, April 9, 2006

Dad said my glue was dry, and he was right! What he meant was that I am an adult who has a strong sense of self, and that’s all fine and good, but now I’m glued in an all together ‘nother way. So without further ado…

Just what you’ve been looking for: an Abby aggregator! I’ve suprglu’d all my various online stuff into one neat and tidy Super RSS feed. You can also sub with Bloglines. The You Tube feed doesn’t seem to be working, and it’s not as immediate as the regular feeds for my various online locations, but it’s more streamlined. Plus, y’all know I love me some novelty, and what’s more novel than aggregating myself? I can think of very little… at least not until tomorrow when there will be some even shinier penny available for my fleeting consumption. Until then, enjoy. 😀

You Tube vs. Google Video vs. Vimeo

By Abby at 8:04 pm on Wednesday, March 29, 2006

I’ve recently started uploading some of my videos. I have lots of them from the past few years. I did a little bit of looking around, and You Tube seemed to be the most intuitive interface, and that’s what I wanted. While it’s not perfect, so far I’m very happy. Some of the features I really like are:

  • Automatic trackbacks for each public video you upload
  • The ability to create infinite categories of friends, so I can upload myself doing virtuous things and only share those with my Amish relatives (OK, you got me. I’m rarely all that virtuous – too much cussing – and I have no Amish relatives), and I can upload videos of me and my friends acting like fools and only share those with people in the proper inner circle to see. This took me a few days to work out, but now I have it all straight, and I’m pretty happy about it (as, I’m sure, are my friends).
  • Videos seem to start and load much more quickly on You Tube than on Google Video.
  • Super easy to get things on my blog. No learning curve at all.
  • Tagging, beautiful tagging.

I found this article comparing You Tube and Google Video. I think I made the right choice.
