Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Troublemaker

Life is in flux BIG TIME these days. I want to keep in touch with all of my peeps. The Internet is this beautiful thing. I can move to a brand new city and still stay in easy, near-daily contact with the people I love. When I feel connected to the people in my life that matter, I am unstoppable!

Jamaica Plain is So Cool!

Aaron and I had so much fun last night. We had an early dinner at Bella Luna. YUM! I was so craving linguini and meatballs, and they totally delivered!

Steve tipped us off on a JP neighborhood meeting at the Milky Way Lounge. It was a cool place, and we got to meet all of our groovy neighbors. Very fun crowd, and there’s apparently tons of community stuff going on: potlucks, caroling, book clubs, running clubs, etc. I liked it a lot and will definitely be watching to see what’s going on. We all had nametags with our first names and our street names, so I was approached by a woman who lives right across the side street and met another woman who owns a townhouse around the corner. Very cool people, and I hope I get to see them again.

Also got to meet Rivera again. He was actually our third "trick or treater" doorbell ring we got on Halloween. I told him that his politician costume was excellent (tee hee). He’s about 30 and originally from Puerto Rico. Steve says he’s for rent control, which is maybe not a good thing, but as a renter, I’m having a little trouble with that concept.

Milky Way Lounge was a cool place. It’s a bar and a candlepin bowling alley. We left as the live band karaoke began. My kind of place.

Oh, and apparently, Carol can be photographed:

As always, there are more pictures on Flickr.

Tumbleweed City

By Abby at 9:47 pm on Thursday, October 27, 2005

Where’d everyone go? I think my feeds might be messed up or something. Anyhoo…

Aaron and I are back from a day with my parents. We lucked out and found a parking space in the North End. After a lovely lunch, we wandered around, caught up with a bit of the Freedom Trail, and then got ourselves caught in a helluva traffic jam on Route 9. Tonight we went to Rani in Brookline – FABULOUS South Indian food. They had Bhel Poori, which (thanks to Nanu) is one of my faves. After dinner, we hit Peet’s, Brookline Booksmith, and then Trader Joe’s to get some cookies made by a friend my parents met on their China tour.

If I get the energy, I’m going to review some of these places on Yelp:

Wallace & Gromit was wonderful. And in very sad news, look what just happened to the Aardman Animation Archive.

My alma mater has an EXCELLENT collection of old color photographs online. Definitely check it out. The picture above is Atlanta in 1951.

Today, I went to Square Foods for lunch, armed with a camera. It was my last day at the Exchange Club (I can tell you the name now that I’m gone), and I wanted to see if I could catch Sheri for a chat and a picture. She got there was after I did, but she did arrive. She saw me, walked up to me, and asked me if I’d seen the sign out front. I told her I’d already taken a picture and showed her. She wanted me to take her picture in front of the sign, and I meant to, but then we got to talking, and by the time I left, I’d totally forgotten. I did get a few nice pictures of her though. Here’s my favorite:

She doesn’t go online much, but she said her husband does. "Hi, Sheri’s husband!"

Do try to make it on Saturday, and if you can’t, they said they’d put out a little jar for donations on the deli counter in the back.
