Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Troublemaker

Life is in flux BIG TIME these days. I want to keep in touch with all of my peeps. The Internet is this beautiful thing. I can move to a brand new city and still stay in easy, near-daily contact with the people I love. When I feel connected to the people in my life that matter, I am unstoppable!

Double Trouble: Kristin and Abby, Out and About

By Abby at 12:11 pm on Sunday, March 26, 2006

Click the pic for more pix, people.

I don’t feel so good this morning, but I think it was worth it. I know it looks like pictures that sorority girls have on their bulletin board, but Kristin and I both had so much fun that we’re willing to forgive ourselves! 😛

I’ll finish all the tagging later. Right now, I’m going to Doyle’s for a greasy brunch. Kristin says we don’t deserve Centre Street after last night, and I’m inclined to agree!

Update: Man, Kristin and I were all over the place last night!

The Bard of Barking, Somerville Theatre

By Abby at 7:00 am on Friday, March 24, 2006

I’ve been burning the candle at both ends this week (professionally and socially), so I don’t have any time to write about the Billy Bragg gig at the Somerville Theatre right now, but I’m hoping I will find some time this weekend. He was, as ever, very much himself:political, self-deprivating, witty, passionate, historical, connected, educational, engaging, current, and clever… all without a hint of pomposity. No seriously!

The opening act was Jill Sobule. She is my new hero! Really clever lyrics, great sense of humor, vocal chops, dynamic, personal, vulnerable, and she sang a number of songs about life post-breakup that really spoke to me. I’m a new fan. I bought a CD of hers after the gig and got to meet her.

On quick share: Jill Sobule sang one song I know my politically-minded, Bush-hating friends will love. It’s called "Put Him in the Hall of Fame." From her web site: George W. Bush’s popularity on the wane, here’s a modest proposal to get him out of a sticky situation and fulfill his dreams at the same time. It’s a win-win; what’s not to love?

Download "Put Him in the Hall of Fame" (I hope hotlinking isn’t a problem. I’m sure once you’ll listen, you’ll want to go see her and buy all her albums! Plus, she’s offering this song for free on her site right now.)

Hoping to write more about the gig soon…

Platial: My Favorite Site du Jour

By Abby at 5:32 pm on Thursday, March 23, 2006

I can’t get enough of the site, Platial. It’s so easy to get started and such a fascinating way to present information. I LOVE it!

It’s changing daily. It will eventually document every place I’ve spent more than 6 weeks over my whole life. I’m so geographically-challenged that imagining this visually wasn’t possible… until now!

OK, off to see Billy!

Another Game Night

By Abby at 12:15 am on Wednesday, March 22, 2006

This time, I went with me, myself, and I, and I ended up meeting many fine people from the North Bennet Street School. I’d never heard of it before, but apparently, they have very strong craftsmanship programs in several areas. Most of the people I met were doing either Cabinet and Furniture Making and Jewelry Making. There was one guy there in carpentry, and yes, I did ask what he knew about pole barns, and sadly, the answer was, "Not much!"

One of these Tuesdays, I’m going to play a game that isn’t Apples to Apples. I swear!!

As always, pictures! Here are a few to get you started:

Black.White.

By Abby at 11:06 pm on Wednesday, March 15, 2006

Check out Black. White. It’s no Color of Fear, but it’s damn fascinating. I wish I’d had it when I was still teaching my multiculturalism class. Lots of talking about stereotypes. Lots of flaws, but it’s a fascinating exercise. The girl Rose is really blowing me away. Check it out, and let me know how it strikes you.
