Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Troublemaker

Life is in flux BIG TIME these days. I want to keep in touch with all of my peeps. The Internet is this beautiful thing. I can move to a brand new city and still stay in easy, near-daily contact with the people I love. When I feel connected to the people in my life that matter, I am unstoppable!

Home, Serendipity, and a Haiku

By Abby at 6:49 am on Monday, June 12, 2006

Well, I’m home, and I’m SO tired! No time to properly blog, but a few quick things to share. First, a wonderful surprise! I got to see Mynxie at the airport!

It was a total fluke. I texted her saying I was a bad planner and should have told her I’d be around during a layover. She was like, "I’m in my car! I’ll be right over." YAY! It was brief, and there was lots of amusing trouble finding each other at SFO, but in the end, we succeeded and had a lovely chat. What a total treat! I love it when things like that work out.

Also, I don’t have time to share the whole story, but I wrote a haiku about an experience I had near the beginning of my 5 1/2 hour flight home:

Iced cran-apple juice
Spills, crotch soaked, window seat, trapped
Flight attendant, help!

Where’s My Mountain?!

By Abby at 2:39 pm on Saturday, June 10, 2006

I hear there’s a big-ass mountain called Mount Rainier around here. It was visible from the plane, but not on my side, although I did get a peek. I thought I might see it from the ground, and I’ve had my eye out since I got here, but so far, no luck. Even when it has been perfectly clear, it has been just cloudy enough on the horizon to obscure my view of "my mountain." This morning, I decided to look into the view-of-Mount-Rainier-from-Seattle situation on Flickr, and I guess mountain views aren’t as common as I thought.

And so now I have a new goal before I leave. Either I will go on water in a boat of some kind OR I will go up in some tall building to see a better view of the city. We’ve done so much hanging out and wandering around that we haven’t really made much of an effort to hit all the must-see places. I’m wondering if the Seattle Library has a good view from the top. That might be a nice way to see a site and see a view at the same time.

Jon’s suggestions of seeing the bridge troll in Fremont and Gas Works Park have also gone unimplemented. I guess 3 days in a city isn’t as much as I’d imagined, but I’m still having a glorious time.

Oh, and when they say "The World’s Best Mac & Cheese," they aren’t fucking kidding!

Pictures or Words? Can’t Have Both!

By Abby at 9:58 pm on Friday, June 9, 2006

So I can hear Veronica (AKA Smoooochie) typing away on the next bed, while I have spent the last half an hour or so rotating pictures and cutting the 414 pictures I took today down to 178 to upload. I’m making fast decisions, since I can’t leave this work until I get back. When I get back, it’s work time again. And so there will be the text documentation of the trip (a la Smoooochie) and the visual documentation (a la me).

It’s been great seeing Anne and Veronica. They are such great friends, so easy to be around. Even though I rarely see them IRL (“in real life”), I talk to them more than just about anyone else. I never have to give a back story for anything, because they know it all. I love it! Dan has been a seriously great 4th wheel, as has Paige. Tonight, they will both be with us at karaoke. Yes, it’s Friday night, and a karaoke adventure has been planned for me – and I thought I’d have the week off. We may even see some people from Ask MetaFilter! That would be nutty!

The Seattle Flickr set keeps expanding. I know there are too many to view casually, but in the end, the pictures are for us, and we don’t mind! If you happen to enjoy them, too, then that’s an extra bonus. 😀

Boston Friends: Help! My Jacket is Lost

By Abby at 1:39 pm on Friday, June 9, 2006

OK, so before I left town, I was all packed, and I couldn’t find my rain jacket. Gah! And so I’ve tried to call the places in Boston where I thought I might have left my jacket. If any of my friends in Boston are bored and want to be my big hero, you could help me out by checking the Common Ground in Allston (617-783-2071) to see if I left my jacket there at Game Night on Tuesday or if I left it at karaoke at the Charles Playhouse Lounge (617-824-1921) on Friday. Whenever I call, it seems to be the wrong time. I know some of you will be out at these places. Maybe you could ask.

The jacket is black and blue from EMS, Women’s size Medium, fitted, and CUTE!

It’s the blue/black one in this animated gif:
