North & South Stations
From the Not For Tourists Guide to Boston:
There is a one-mile gap between the two Amtrak stations. The North Station stop is on the Orange and Green lines of the MBTA subway, and the South Station stop is on the Red Line. Yes, it is crazy that the stations aren’t on the same line and don’t directly connect to each other. No, they’re not going to do anything to correct the problem in the near future. Yes, they could have rolled it into the Big Dig project, since they were digging under the city anyway. No, we don’t know why they didn’t. And yes, it does seem odd that they spent billions to improve automobile transportation while ignoring public transportation. As is stands, travelers going from New York to Maine have to get off the train at South Station and either take a cab, take two subway trains, or walk to get to get to North Station to continue their journey.
