Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Troublemaker

Life is in flux BIG TIME these days. I want to keep in touch with all of my peeps. The Internet is this beautiful thing. I can move to a brand new city and still stay in easy, near-daily contact with the people I love. When I feel connected to the people in my life that matter, I am unstoppable!

It’s So On!!

Trapped In The Closet – The R. Kelly Sing-a-long at the Coolidge Corner Theatre on Friday, April, 29th:

We spared no expense to import from Austin, Texas, one of our favorite ideas ever. Our friend Henri, from the Alamo Drafhouse (one of the best theaters in the country, period), joins us as host for this very special event.

To the uninitiated: Every chapter of R. Kelly’s TRAPPED IN THE CLOSET soap hip-hopera ends with a cliffhanger. The last lines of Chapter 1 are, fittingly enough: "He walks up to the closet (closet) – He’s close up to the closet (closet) – Now he’s at the closet (closet) – Now he’s opening the closet (closet, closet, closet)." Then the video fades out and you have to wait for Chapter 2 to find out what happens when he opens the closet (closet, closet, closet). Fortunately you don’t have to wait long because it’ll fade right back in with Chapter 2 and we all get to see what happens when he opens up the closet and finds R. Kelly there in a post-adultery hide-away.

To those in the know: You’ve seen the videos online. Maybe you’ve even seen them on DVD in a room with friends. But you haven’t fully experienced them until you’ve rapped along with R. Kelly in a theater full of hundreds of friends and a bevy of props hidden around the room. We’ll screen all 12 chapters with bouncing-ball sing-a-long lyrics, a bevy of other classic R. Kelly videos (everyone ready for the Bump N’ Grind?), a special on-screen "interview" with the man himself, an amazing 10 year old kiddie remake of the first chapter of Trapped, and more! By the end of the show, Sylvester won’t be the only one who’ll scream out, "Oh my god, a rubber!"

It is so on. Let me know if you can join. I want to make a night of it. 😀

Double Trouble: Kristin and Abby, Out and About

By Abby at 12:11 pm on Sunday, March 26, 2006

Click the pic for more pix, people.

I don’t feel so good this morning, but I think it was worth it. I know it looks like pictures that sorority girls have on their bulletin board, but Kristin and I both had so much fun that we’re willing to forgive ourselves! 😛

I’ll finish all the tagging later. Right now, I’m going to Doyle’s for a greasy brunch. Kristin says we don’t deserve Centre Street after last night, and I’m inclined to agree!

Update: Man, Kristin and I were all over the place last night!

Playing Hooky with Linda

By Abby at 1:04 am on Wednesday, March 15, 2006

Linda and I have in our heads that we WILL see a movie, because with her kids and my job/life, neither of us have seen a movie in the theater in forever. So today was supposed to be the day. I wasn’t supposed to have to go in to work. She was supposed to have the nanny over to kidsit. But I did end up having to go in. I ended up making up a pack of well-crafted lies so that I could leave (It didn’t hurt that I turned in 3 reports today, while her practicum student got a tongue-lashing for missing a feedback completely… something I haven’t EVER done). Once out on the road, I learned that Linda’s day had gone terribly awry, yet we soldiered on and made a backup plan. While we still didn’t make it to an actual movie, we did take a nice leisurely walk down Mass Ave in the beautiful sunshine, then have a delicious Eritrean meal sitting at the window right in the sunbeam. WARM!

After lunch, we walked back towards her place and stopped in for quite a while at the Relax the Back store. We tried out all the chairs and beds and relaxer toys. I really liked the inversion table, as you can see. I liked the Swopper, too.

On the drive home over the Charles, the skies were blue, and there was a small regatta. Runners and dog walkers covered the bridge, and the sun reflected off the water. I think I know why I forgot about not liking Boston when was here before. The beautiful Spring got me all confused! When it arrives, its hard to remember what came before, and that was my last view of the place before I left. I won’t forget the long winters this time, but I won’t let that keep me from enjoying every day I have here of springtime.

Get Your Game On

By Abby at 1:06 pm on Tuesday, March 7, 2006

"Get your game on" in the Boston Globe Sidekick today, pages 8 and 9. I decided to use my real name, because you can’t do a search for my last name and end up at this blog location, and that’s really the point. I’m right behind Sooz in the picture! Next game night is tonight. I’ll be there, although I’m hoping to cruise Neighbors for Neighbors’ event at Doyle’s, too.

Dear E.J.

By Abby at 11:24 pm on Friday, February 24, 2006

Dear E.J.,

Thank you so much! I love, love, LOVE your voice, and these songs are beautiful. I can’t believe I didn’t spend more time with you in Memphis, and the fact that I only heard you sing once is criminal. I feel honored to know you. What a gift to see these MP3’s here waiting for me. 😀

My day just got a lot better.

Abby
