Just got a call from my parents. They were on a boat going down the Danube River in Austria. Yes, Katy, Österreich! (Meine Mutter und mein Vater sind in Österreich, das hinunter den Donau Fluß reist!) Very cool. I’m hella jealous! It might look like this where they are:
What’s really funny is that In Budapest is the name of my favorite Ella Fitzgerald recording. I only realized this when I typed that into the Title field just now!
ANYWAY, I am pleased to report that Dad (aka “Parental Unit”) is blogging from their trip. Make sure you keep a watch on 1 Boring Old Man. Here’s an excerpt from the first trip-related post:
Like most places we’ve been in the world. The first day of a trip is about the differences. After that, it’s about the similarities.
Mom is bringing her camera. Dad has acquired a Nikon Coolpix (I used to have one myself). They are going to lovely places that I can’t afford to visit for quite a while. Therefore, I’m going to require REALLY excellent photos. I’m looking for images of this quality. Don’t let me down!

Mom and Dad Troublemaker are headed out on Sunday for Budapest, Prague, Vienna, and Slovenia Slovakia. Isn’t that cool? I’m pretty damn jealous. My traveling has taken a major hit in the last few years. Can’t wait to turn that back around. Hope they have a great time. And don’t tell them to take pictures. I think it’s covered!
My furniture was delivered on January 10th. A few weeks ago, they FINALLY brought the painting they accidentally left in the truck. About bloody time!! This was painted by Bill Hicks, the art teacher at Central High School in Memphis, Tennessee when my mom was teaching math. It has been on the walls of my parents home from before I was born until they sold the house they have been in for 25 years just a few years ago. It’s not my house without this painting. Now it’s my house!
