Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Troublemaker

Life is in flux BIG TIME these days. I want to keep in touch with all of my peeps. The Internet is this beautiful thing. I can move to a brand new city and still stay in easy, near-daily contact with the people I love. When I feel connected to the people in my life that matter, I am unstoppable!

Blogging Katrina & An Anniversary

By Abby at 5:09 pm on Saturday, June 24, 2006

As you may recall, my parents recently celebrated 40 years of marriage. Instead of having a big party or taking a luxury vacation, as some people do, they decided to follow the path of their honeymoon, which essentially meant following the path of Katrina.

My father and mother make a great blogging team. Dad is a wonderful writer with a thoughtful mind. Mom, like me, is a shutterbug. Now that they are retired and traveling more than ever, we all benefit from the trips they take.

Dad’s writings about the trip are so worth reading. I particularly enjoyed his explanation for why Katrina’s effect on New Orleans in particular is a true Aristotilean tragedy (damn, my dad’s smart!). Go read it, will you?

Blogs always have the latest writing first, so start at the last post on the second page of the June archives and read them in reverse order. Then click over to the previous page, and again read bottom up. Sounds more complicated than it is!

Dad on Ann Coulter

So speaking of people who are my parents and things they put online, I generally don’t spend much time reading my dad’s political blog, but I thought that this was pretty damn funny.

Peru & The Galapagos Islands: Abby Wades In!

By Abby at 7:51 am on Wednesday, May 24, 2006

Well, right now, my friends know more about my parents’ trip to Peru and the Galapagos Islands than I do, and so I’ve decided to start at the very beginning. I hear that’s a very good place to start. When you read you begin with A, B, C. When you read Dad’s blog about the trip, you begin right here. Veronica has been reading about the trip with her kids (very educational – she’s such a good mom), and I’ve suggested the same to Linda with her knowledge-sponge of a son, Joey.

And so my latest quest to be a good daughter begins NOW! Baby steps, and I’ll get there. I welcome you to join me. First, Peru!

After that, it’s a lesson in Darwin, then on to the Galapagos!

Darkest Peru

By Abby at 6:48 am on Tuesday, April 25, 2006

paddingtonLet’s all bid my parents adieu as they embark on their latest adventure. They hear that Paddington Bear is visiting home, and they are hoping to see him:

Paddington arrived from Darkest Peru with nothing but his hat, a suitcase and an almost empty jar of marmalade … so he was very pleased when, on a rather famous railway platform, he met Mr and Mrs Brown, who invited him to stay with them! And that, as we all know, is where Paddington’s adventures began … or was it?

My dad said on the phone just now, "I’m leaving you in charge of this hemisphere. They are off to Peru and the Galapagos Islands. What an adventure!
