Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Troublemaker

Life is in flux BIG TIME these days. I want to keep in touch with all of my peeps. The Internet is this beautiful thing. I can move to a brand new city and still stay in easy, near-daily contact with the people I love. When I feel connected to the people in my life that matter, I am unstoppable!

Playing Hooky with Linda

By Abby at 1:04 am on Wednesday, March 15, 2006

Linda and I have in our heads that we WILL see a movie, because with her kids and my job/life, neither of us have seen a movie in the theater in forever. So today was supposed to be the day. I wasn’t supposed to have to go in to work. She was supposed to have the nanny over to kidsit. But I did end up having to go in. I ended up making up a pack of well-crafted lies so that I could leave (It didn’t hurt that I turned in 3 reports today, while her practicum student got a tongue-lashing for missing a feedback completely… something I haven’t EVER done). Once out on the road, I learned that Linda’s day had gone terribly awry, yet we soldiered on and made a backup plan. While we still didn’t make it to an actual movie, we did take a nice leisurely walk down Mass Ave in the beautiful sunshine, then have a delicious Eritrean meal sitting at the window right in the sunbeam. WARM!

After lunch, we walked back towards her place and stopped in for quite a while at the Relax the Back store. We tried out all the chairs and beds and relaxer toys. I really liked the inversion table, as you can see. I liked the Swopper, too.

On the drive home over the Charles, the skies were blue, and there was a small regatta. Runners and dog walkers covered the bridge, and the sun reflected off the water. I think I know why I forgot about not liking Boston when was here before. The beautiful Spring got me all confused! When it arrives, its hard to remember what came before, and that was my last view of the place before I left. I won’t forget the long winters this time, but I won’t let that keep me from enjoying every day I have here of springtime.

Unfortunately for those of us who were expecting you to be around for awhile, this winter has been a total non-event. It hasn’t been cold and it hasn’t snowed which are the two conditions of climate required for a proper New England winter. To be sure, one needs to be outdoors doing stuff…a bonfire at the edge of a frozen skating pond is a peak experience. Being snowed-in with your larder full and dry logs for the fire is as wonderful a sensation as I can imagine. Setting out on your snowshoes under the stars and moon across an unbroken field of snow is something that not even Jesus got to do…which has always made me wonder just how close he could possibly be to God. Alas and alack. For the record, I am super pissed off with this lady for driving you off!

Hang in there kiddo!

xx

To be fair, she didn’t do it alone. The roads did it. The weather now (and the last time I lived here) did it. Speaking of, let’s go for a meal or hang out soon!

“Relax the Back” is a chain of stores in a number of states. I’ve seen them in STL, Memphis, Omaha (when I was travelling there regularly about 6-7 years ago) and maybe Nashvegas.

You can find yer local store at: http://www.relaxtheback.com/
