Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Troublemaker

Life is in flux BIG TIME these days. I want to keep in touch with all of my peeps. The Internet is this beautiful thing. I can move to a brand new city and still stay in easy, near-daily contact with the people I love. When I feel connected to the people in my life that matter, I am unstoppable!

Monkey’s Big Adventure

By Abby at 9:12 am on Friday, June 10, 2005

In the beginning, there was Monkey:

and it was good.

This past Sunday, I dropped my laundry off at Do-Duds. When I went to bed on Sunday night, I realized that Monkey was not in my bed. Hmmm.

On Monday morning, I called Do-Duds and found that Monkey had in fact, stowed away in a sheet and had taken a trip to Do-Duds.

Later that day, it was clear that not only had he gone along for the ride to the laundromat, he’d also taken a spin in the washer, and then in the dryer. He’s very clean, but a little misshapen. I hope he had a nice time.

The reunion:

Welcome home, Monkey!

I’m so happy Monkey wasn’t stuffed with rice like the last time he went on a laundry ride. Actually, he looks good. I think he may have needed a bath. I’ll bet you could dampen him, reshape him and lay him flat to dry and he’d be “like a new ‘un”. Granddaddy would be proud.

A harrowing adventure for you little brown friend. You’ve got to be philosophical about it…a metaphor for the broader patterns of life. One minute you’re tucked up, safe and comfy in your own bed, the next tossing around in a maelstrom not of your choosing then stuffed without ceremony in a stifling environment that evokes questions about whether you’ll even survive! You might want to pick up T.S. Eliot’s “Four Quartets” and ask your mother to read “Burnt Norton” to you.

xx

I’m in North Georgia now. I’m sure that book is around here somewhere. Monkey is guarding the Memphis place with my cats and the catsitter. Folks are enjoying this post, too. Can’t wait to see you, Carl!

You still have that thing? He actually looks quite good for his age. Oh, and BTW, the obligatory ‘You rascal, here in GA and not gracing Atlanta with your presence??’ There, I feel better now.

I am so busted. Yes, I’m here. I landed early Friday evening, had dinner with my ex, drove up here to Jasper, spent Saturday with my folks and the other peeps who just moved up here, drove up to the wedding for the evening, just got back. The morning is for fixing computers of my parents’ friends (Dad has not only retired from his job; he has also retired as the local computer tech guy), then I fly home. Not much time for fun, and I’m sorry about that.

PLEASE forgive me!

If you have the time while in GA, you might try using one of those computers you are working on to see what happens when you click on the “EMAIL ABBY” tabb on your side bar.
