Out Back at Helios

There is a man who is frequently out back at Helios in an old Saab driving forwards and backwards and forwards and backwards. I saw this a few times before I worked out what he was doing. He takes aluminum cans, sprinkles them around, and then he flattens them with his car, presumably before recycling them. Does he live back there somewhere? Is he the recycle guy for that churchy building? What’s the deal?

We have seen him a few times too. Seems like a bit of an oxymoron….using up gas to crush a few dozen cans for recycling??

Seen him a few times myself. I have never really gotten a close look at the guy. At first I thought maybe it was for some art project he is working on. However, if it is that regular maybe it is for recycling.

I never asked him why he collects the cans because I felt it would be an awkward question. But if you want, I’ll ask him (if I see him next week) and find out what he does it for. I don’t know much about him except his name is Samuel and he collects cans from all over downtown. Our conversations are more like: When are the bands planning to be here? Me: around 7. Him: Oh, I’ll be gone by then! We say hi and bye and all that jazz.
