Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Troublemaker

Life is in flux BIG TIME these days. I want to keep in touch with all of my peeps. The Internet is this beautiful thing. I can move to a brand new city and still stay in easy, near-daily contact with the people I love. When I feel connected to the people in my life that matter, I am unstoppable!

You people make me happy

By Abby at 4:38 pm on Monday, June 30, 2008

A friend of mine lost her mother in the ferry disaster in the Philippines that occurred a week ago Saturday. She sent out an email to her friends and family today, and I want to share the last paragraph with you:

At the very least, I implore you to not hesitate to let people you care about know how much they mean to you. You don’t have to go out and do it now, but if the mood strikes, don’t let it go by without expressing it. Sometimes I think we spend more time expressing bad feelings than good. It should be ok and not weird to just let people know that they make you happy. (Believe me, I have many regrets in this department.) Just do it. It doesn’t cost a thing.

It’s a beautiful world we live in…

By Abby at 3:02 pm on Wednesday, June 25, 2008

These days, most of my “Hey, look at this” stuff is either shared in Google Reader, on my Tumblr blog, or on Twitter. This was cool enough that I thought I’d share it here. I got it from Dad, and I can’t believe I hadn’t seen it before. What happy coolness. It makes me desperate to travel again. All those people all over the world… I want to meet more of them.

Parental Unit Sighting

By Abby at 11:42 am on Monday, June 23, 2008

I’ve been blog-neglectful as of late. Starting a private practice is hard work! And lots of other things have been going on, too. Most notably, I’ve seen my parents three times in the last 10 days. They stopped in Raleigh for a few days on their way to vacation in the Outer Banks (Duck, NC), which was great. They got to see my photo at Rebus Works, meet some of my friends, and share a few meals with me. It was really nice after a fairly hellish food-poisoning trip home at Christmas.

Drew and My Parents at Katy's Flag Day Party

Mom and Rich

Mom’s recovering from double knee-replacement surgery and Dad is definitely down in the back, so they were both a bit hobbly, but hopefully that is a very temporary situation. Hot tubs at their hotel here and at the beach were certainly appreciated, although the long drive wasn’t exactly therapeutic.

On Friday, I went to the beach for a quick 24-hour visit and saw them along with their friends they’ve been traveling with for 30+ years. That was a nice break from Raleigh. I had some hot tub time, a nice walk on the beach, some group puzzle solving, a new location to photograph, and shared a wonderful meal with the group.

Sandcastle
Spotted on my beach walk. The creators were nowhere nearby, but I was still impressed!

Then on their drive back to North Georgia, they stopped for lunch as well. Hooray for great parental visits, and we spaced it out enough that noone drove anyone crazy. Double score!

Statement of Intention

By Abby at 10:08 am on Monday, June 16, 2008

Crap, OK. I’m heading to Weight Watchers today. It’s the first time in my life that I’ve tipped above the normal weight category. It was the surgery and cast time that put me over the edge. Gotta act now before I enter the slippery slope! Yuck…

Edited because the weight chart was bumming everyone out!
