Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Troublemaker

Life is in flux BIG TIME these days. I want to keep in touch with all of my peeps. The Internet is this beautiful thing. I can move to a brand new city and still stay in easy, near-daily contact with the people I love. When I feel connected to the people in my life that matter, I am unstoppable!

Dear Canon USA

Dear Canon USA,

I’m an amateur photographer. I am beyond prolific. I have one of your Powershot A540′s, and it goes everywhere I go. While some people use Auto all the time, I use every single setting the camera has. I usually shoot in manual mode, but I also use Aperture Priority a lot, and recently, I’ve been very taken with the Color Accent feature. My Canon is my constant companion, and noone puts it to better use than I.

Right now, I’m studying for my licensure exam, but I’m not working. Recently, I went to a wedding and encountered many wealthy people with your SLR’s. I know I am not making any money, but is it really fair that people who don’t even know how to use their cameras, people who only pull out their cameras for special occasions, should have nicer cameras than someone like me, who takes pictures off my camera and edits and uploads them every single day? I will be working soon, and I promise that as soon as I’m on my feet, you’ll have a loyal and dedicated Canon fan for years to come. I bring so much to the world with my pictures. Isn’t it only fair that I get a nice Canon Digital Rebel XTi with maybe a nice bokeh lens?

What do you say? I promise I’ll make you proud! I’m sure you have some of last year’s models sitting around somewhere, just gathering dust. I say put them to good use.

Thanks,

Abby

You don’t really want to buy an SLR from a copy machine company, do you? Go Nikon!

P.S. I’ve got some Nikon lenses I could sell you for cheap. :-)

Hold out for the 5D – it has that all-important 1:1 sensor so the camera focal length is exactly the same as a 35mm Canon film camera, and all the lenses work exactly the same way.

Heh. If that is too dear, how about haunting eBay for a Digital Rebel? They seem to be going for under $400. (this one will be gone by the time you see this post, but you get the idea.)

Seriously I am also all Nikon – the D200 is awesome. As is my old original F (black, film version, with the 28-55 macro lens). You could also go large – I mean, 4×5, Graflex large. Sheet B&W film still rulez.

But the truth is, it ain’t the camera. It’s the fotog. I’ve seen too many great pictures shot on so-so, not-impressive-to-the-geekitude gear to have much patience with the camera snob crowd.

Dear Abby,

While your pictures, thus far, may have enriched the lives of all those whose gaze may have fallen upon them, we, as a multi-national company, can only offer freebies to those celebrities (and celebrity photographers) who can already afford our wares.
While we are patently aware of the surrealism, nay masochism, of such a situation, we feel confident that you will understand our desire to market our camera somewhere north of the hoi-polloi.
While we would in no way wish to denigrate *you* in such a manner, we look forward to such an occasion when you are no longer spongeing off your parents/leeching off the welfare/bludging off the dole (delete as appropriate, according to national stereotype) and can afford said equipment of your own.
Yours, as ever, in corporate mode,
Mr C Anon

Spongeing… thanks for the reminder.

I’ll take either a Canon or a Nikon or any camera that is good. I just thought I could get more leverage with Canon since I’m so prolific with one. Before my last two Canon Powershots, I had a Nikon Coolpix. I’m actually not too brand allegiant, although if a company gave me a free one, I’d become VERY allegiant!

Dear Abby,

I’m sitting here looking at a Nikon with all kinds of lenses, including a 75-210mm zoom. It comes complete with case. You can have it. One problem. It’s a film camera.

Lucky! I can’t wait until Canon gives me my free camera. That’s going to be the best day EVAR!
