All About Al (Attention NPR Heads)
You remember how my Dad’s blog is called 3 Old Men? You probably wondered who those other two old (quieter) men were. Well, one of them is Al. Al is quite a character, and he can deadpan a room into giggly fits lickity split. He also happens to be an amazing photographer who documented the civil rights movement. NPR did a piece on him today called “Al Clayton: Chronicler of America’s Poor and Hungry”. We’re all read proud!
Make sure you listen to the interview. I’m real annoyed they only have it in Real Audio format. I’m working to convert to another format so you don’t have to get that player. Any suggestions in this pursuit are much appreciated.
While I’m talking about Al, I’d like to share a picture he took in the 80’s of RuPaul. There is a massive version of it at his home. RuPaul actually went to my high school before I got there, and I remember him looking like this. I actually remember seeing him at a civil rights march in Cumming, GA looking just like this.
