Check out Black. White. It’s no Color of Fear, but it’s damn fascinating. I wish I’d had it when I was still teaching my multiculturalism class. Lots of talking about stereotypes. Lots of flaws, but it’s a fascinating exercise. The girl Rose is really blowing me away. Check it out, and let me know how it strikes you.
Linda and I have in our heads that we WILL see a movie, because with her kids and my job/life, neither of us
have seen a movie in the theater in forever. So today was supposed to be the day. I wasn’t supposed to have to go in to work. She was supposed to have the nanny over to kidsit. But I did end up having to go in. I ended up making up a pack of well-crafted lies so that I could leave (It didn’t hurt that I turned in 3 reports today, while her practicum student got a tongue-lashing for missing a feedback completely… something I haven’t EVER done). Once out on the road, I learned that Linda’s day had gone terribly awry, yet we soldiered on and made a backup plan. While we still didn’t make it to an actual movie, we did take a nice leisurely walk down Mass Ave in the beautiful sunshine, then have a delicious Eritrean meal sitting at the window right in the sunbeam. WARM!
After lunch, we walked back towards her place and stopped in for quite a while at the Relax the Back store. We tried out all the chairs and beds and relaxer toys. I really liked the inversion table, as you can see. I liked the Swopper, too.
On the drive home over the Charles, the skies were blue, and there was a small regatt
a. Runners and dog walkers covered the bridge, and the sun reflected off the water. I think I know why I forgot about not liking Boston when was here before. The beautiful Spring got me all confused! When it arrives, its hard to remember what came before, and that was my last view of the place before I left. I won’t forget the long winters this time, but I won’t let that keep me from enjoying every day I have here of springtime.
I am soooo stoked for two upcoming gigs. Two of my very favorite live acts are coming to town, one week apart. First, the Saw Doctors at the Roxy. I’m excited because I just found out Bostonist will have a contingent there (notice my spastic comment on their site), and I haven’t seen them in a while. Bostonist are nice people, and Kristin’s coming, so it should be fun. Yay!
Then next week is Billy Bragg SOLO (Yay! Sans blokes is kind of rare.) at the Somerville Theatre. I’m bringing along a friend from work who used to be a gig girl until the place sucked the life out of her. She’s leaving my place of employment at the end of the month, so maybe this will welcome her back to a life of happiness and leisure!
Speaking of Billy Bragg, I received such a wonderful surprise in the mail yesterday from an old friend who knew things were a bit rough right now:
