Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Troublemaker

Life is in flux BIG TIME these days. I want to keep in touch with all of my peeps. The Internet is this beautiful thing. I can move to a brand new city and still stay in easy, near-daily contact with the people I love. When I feel connected to the people in my life that matter, I am unstoppable!

North & South Stations

By Abby at 10:23 pm on Sunday, November 13, 2005

From the Not For Tourists Guide to Boston:

There is a one-mile gap between the two Amtrak stations. The North Station stop is on the Orange and Green lines of the MBTA subway, and the South Station stop is on the Red Line. Yes, it is crazy that the stations aren’t on the same line and don’t directly connect to each other. No, they’re not going to do anything to correct the problem in the near future. Yes, they could have rolled it into the Big Dig project, since they were digging under the city anyway. No, we don’t know why they didn’t. And yes, it does seem odd that they spent billions to improve automobile transportation while ignoring public transportation. As is stands, travelers going from New York to Maine have to get off the train at South Station and either take a cab, take two subway trains, or walk to get to get to North Station to continue their journey.

Hey Abby-
My mom was watching the travel channel last week and said “They had a show all about Boston! There is so much to see and do and there are great restaurants up there too.” Guess who I thought of!
And then you show the nightmarish public transportation. We have trouble with public transportation (we made laughing stocks of ourselves in D.C. on the metro).
Well, at least I’ve been to Provincetown and Plymouth via car. ; )

Don’t come here and expect to drive. Just don’t do it. I actually find that the public transportation is excellent most of the time, but there are these (literal) gaps and problems that just blow me away. If you’re staying on the Green line before it splits up into B, C, D, and E tracks, you can get just about anywhere very easily.

The idiots working on mass transit here in Charlotte hired the same people under indictment for their work with the Big Dig to do our light rail. When asked wtf they were thinking, our Mayor claimed to not know they worked on the big dig. I’m not sure which is more damning?

Boston seems to be the perfect city for you though. It’s just confusing enough to remain a challenge, and just enough of it is easy and fun to keep you interested.
