My Heart Keeps Breaking
I’m not one who says things like, “My heart is breaking” easily. I don’t like to create drama or oversell my emotions, but animals like these being left behind. I feel so helpless to do anything at all. Even from this far away, I find myself needing to avoid news. I can’t imagine if I were any closer. I will keep giving all I can. And please, anyone who has the space, please adopt or at least give to save some of these animals who were let down by their owner’s government.

Funds are beng better utilized by smaller rescue missions, I believe the USHS has still not gone into the disaster area due to the potential for liability. Those interested in helping the animal should call their local humane societies and kennel clubs and find out what they are doing locally. Anyone that would be able to even foster would be a godsend as most local shelters are typically over-run with too many animals anyway, and taking more in from the gulf is merely causing them to have to euthanize a larger number of their own ward.
This is definitely an area where we are still in “Emergency Mode” as opposed to recovery mode–animals are still being found alive, even within people’s homes, and need help.
