Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Troublemaker

Life is in flux BIG TIME these days. I want to keep in touch with all of my peeps. The Internet is this beautiful thing. I can move to a brand new city and still stay in easy, near-daily contact with the people I love. When I feel connected to the people in my life that matter, I am unstoppable!

Maggie and the Bra

By Abby at 7:55 am on Thursday, August 4, 2005

Every morning way too early, my cats (who sleep in my bedroom with me) wake me up for food. The normal routine is that Maggie claws the covers off of me and meows in my face, and Jeep sits at the end of the bed staring. If I reach for either of them, they race towards the door. Last night, after arriving home from Murphy’s, where there was a Scenestars party at which Mr. E.J. was "spinning," I changed clothes and hung my bra (it smelled like a smoky bar) on the doorknob of the door to my bedroom to air out. This morning, when I opened the door to let the cats out to feed them. Maggie didn’t race past me. She stopped. She’d raced through the strap of the bra hanging on the inside of the door and was stopped dead in her paw tracks. As cats do, she just tugged. I figure if I hadn’t released her, she would have slingshotted back into the room. I usually don’t laugh out loud that soon after waking up, but it was a priceless scene! I was honestly surprised Jeep wasn’t laughing out loud, too! She saw the whole thing and seemed very confused.

Zach Goes Home

By Abby at 1:36 pm on Wednesday, August 3, 2005

If you’ve been paying attention, you probably know that Zach has gone home, and he has posted on his blog again. I was impressed with his response. While amidst a sea of media attention, he said that he does not feel responsible to provide any answers to anyone. I think that’s as it should be. I’m not really concerned with his sexuality. That was never what this was about for me. It’s about allowing people to feel safe and supported while they are dealing with the harrowing identity issues of adolescence. Not just Zach, but anyone. LIA is violating the provisions set forth by my professional organization (APA), as well as many others. I hope people can give Zach some space. Some of the comments on his blog were really insensitive. I’m glad he seems to be coping so well.

The Queer Action Coalition said it best. Read their words.

More Faces

By Abby at 10:10 am on Wednesday, August 3, 2005

After Aaron’s very successful faces, he and I decided I needed to use a better picture of myself facing the camera. Despite the many pictures of me that exist, there weren’t any with me facing the camera and looking at it… I’m hardly surprised since I have considerable camera anxiety. Anyway, Aaron merged two pictures and reran the web tool and came up with this much better set:

Click the picture for a larger view.

Row 1: Baby, Child, Teen
Row 2: Now, Older, Afro-Caribbean
Row 3: Asian, Indian, Masculine
Row 4: Modigliani, Botticelli, Mucha
Row 5: Manga, Ape, Drunk

You know what’s weird? That second picture looks a lot like my cousin Kate when she was younger.

Many Me

By Abby at 6:59 pm on Tuesday, August 2, 2005

Many of Me.jpg

Top Row: Baby Me, Me, Old Lady Me

Middle Row: African Me, East Asian Me, Indian Me

Bottom Row: Man Me, Half-Chimp Me, If Mucha Painted Me

—

Oddly, the Me that completely freaks me out is the Man Me. I can imagine me young, old, of a difference race, but a boy?! I just can’t imagine it. Not in a million years. As far as the morphing goes, I think the East Asian and the Male Me’s are the best, and perhaps that’s why they have a stronger effect on me.

I kind of wish I hadn’t picked the picture with the sunglasses on my head. Sort of ruins the effect. Still, what a fascinating exercise.

Now go make your "Me"!
