Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Troublemaker

Life is in flux BIG TIME these days. I want to keep in touch with all of my peeps. The Internet is this beautiful thing. I can move to a brand new city and still stay in easy, near-daily contact with the people I love. When I feel connected to the people in my life that matter, I am unstoppable!

Poor Renee

By Abby at 9:55 pm on Monday, July 11, 2005

Poor Renee asks, "What the hell is a wiki, and why should I click on your peanut butter sandwich?!" Well, that was roughly what she said. Here’s my answer (I’m copying it out of the comments section):

Haha! You’re cracking me up, Renee. I don’t meant to cause you a headache. A wiki is something that is easily edited. It’s a great way to collect information from a lot of people, or just to keep info online for yourself. Other people can’t fuck it up, because it is private, and you have to have a password to make changes. Some Wikis, most notably Wikipedia, are public, so people can join and make changes. This is a great way to get lots of people in on the editing of a complex story or issue. The best example I can think of is this one I saw recently. In just over four days, there have been over 500 edits! With so many people in getting the story right, you end up with a wealth of information pretty quickly, which is handy as hell.

Here are a few more examples of Wikis online:

Now you know whether or not clicking on my Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich is for you or not. I’m guessing not, but you know, if you wanna surprise me, here’s another opportunity:

If you think Wikis are stupid, you should check out the parody Wickerpedia.

Memphis, Mad Max-Style

By Abby at 12:00 am on Monday, July 11, 2005

So Aaron pointed this out to me: In Google Earth, if you look at the buildings in downtown Memphis, they are all over the road. How very appropriate!

He says that if you look at the pyramid, it’s just a cube. Hahaha!

Technamazing!

By Abby at 5:25 pm on Sunday, July 10, 2005

Can you take the amount of coolness that this link is offering you? Can you rise to the technical challenge? Because it is TOTALLY worth it. Seriously. I’m completely blown away.

So I can go to Google Maps, find an area (say, the place where I am moving), then I click on local search at the top. In the "what" box, I type in what I’m looking for – say "restaurants." Then lots of those little red balloons pop up. I click on one, and there is a picture of the FRONT of the restuarant, right below the address. Unreal!

Oh, and I am also watching the hurricane with the weather filter I downloaded for my Google Earth. This is a fine time to be alive! Well, except for that pesky hurricane headed this way!
