Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Troublemaker

Life is in flux BIG TIME these days. I want to keep in touch with all of my peeps. The Internet is this beautiful thing. I can move to a brand new city and still stay in easy, near-daily contact with the people I love. When I feel connected to the people in my life that matter, I am unstoppable!

It’s Too Darn Hot!

By Abby at 2:21 pm on Thursday, June 30, 2005

And I was just telling my mom I kinda wanted to dig a cool hole in the ground and sit under the bench, like their dog Annie does:

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MEMPHIS TN HAS ISSUED A HEAT ADVISORY. TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 90S TO AROUND 100 DEGREES WILL COMBINE WITH DEW POINTS AROUND 70 THIS AFTERNOON ACROSS EASTERN ARKANSAS…MISSOURI BOOTHEEL…EXTREME WEST TENNESSEE AND PORTIONS OF NORTH MISSISSIPPI TO PRODUCE HEAT INDICES FROM 103 TO 107 IN MANY LOCATIONS. A HEAT ADVISORY IS ISSUED WHEN HIGH HUMIDITIES ARE EXPECTED TO COMBINE WITH HOT TEMPERATURES TO MAKE IT FEEL LIKE IT IS 105 DEGREES OR GREATER. PERSONS IN THE ADVISORY AREA ARE ADVISED TO AVOID PROLONGED WORK IN SUN, OR IN POORLY VENTILATED AREAS. ALSO, KEEP PLENTY OF LIQUIDS ON HAND AND TRY TO STAY IN AN AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENT. CHILDREN, THE ELDERLY AND PEOPLE WITH CRONIC AILMENTS ARE USUALLY THE FIRST TO SUFFER FROM THE HEAT. HEAT EXHAUSTION, CRAMPS, OR IN EXTREME CASES HEAT STROKE CAN RESULT FROM PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO THESE CONDITIONS. FRIENDS, RELATIVES, OR NEIGHBORS SHOULD CHECK ON PEOPLE WHO MAY BE AT RISK.

I’m wilting. I’m wilting. Oh, what a world. What a world!

The upside is that my little weather pixie is totally stylin’ in her teeny bikini!

Phew!! That is miserable stuff. Italy, Memphis, …Italy, Memphis…. Doesn’t sound like either place is much fun in the sun. Can there be any place worse than those? Head for the coast. Doesn’t matter which one. Most areas of them are really nice. When the wind isn’t unruly.

I guess I left the Delta just in time. In Philadelphia right now it is mild (yeah, don’t you hate it when you suffer and someone comes along and says, “Huh, it is perfect here!”)

When I lived in NYC, we did not have AC (only need it two weeks out of the year) so we would fill the tub with water and during those steamy August nights, slip out of the sweat soaked sheets and dive into the tub. Sometimes I did that 15 times in one night.

Go to the movies or mall and you will freez your ass off!

“Head for the coast. Doesn’t matter which one. Most areas of them are really nice. When the wind isn’t unruly.”

Or (taking my cue from recent news stories from Florida) when random sharks aren’t snacking on people.
