Adventures with Dr. Lady Cutie Troublemaker

Life is in flux BIG TIME these days. I want to keep in touch with all of my peeps. The Internet is this beautiful thing. I can move to a brand new city and still stay in easy, near-daily contact with the people I love. When I feel connected to the people in my life that matter, I am unstoppable!

Flying Fuckers

By Abby at 10:18 pm on Wednesday, June 15, 2005

I know I’ve been overblogging the past few days, but there’s been a lot of silly stuff to share. I promise I’ll slow down soon. These things come in waves.

So this dog-sized cockroach was on the wall in the kitchen. It was the second of its kind I saw tonight. I got a broom to kill it, and it took flight into the other room. I, of course, screamed. I hate those flying fuckers. Eek! I really do. So anyway, a little while later, I see Jeep very interested in the bathroom floor, and the little bugger is upside-down, kicking its legs into the air. She is interested but also scared. I mean, she backed away from it. It was, after all, the size of a dog. I got a magazine and THWACK! It, like the guy from earlier, was dead in an Abby-instant.

Please let there be no cockroaches in my bedroom while I sleep. Please oh please. I’m not cut out for this heat or these creatures. I’m really not.

I’m too much of a nancy to get close enough to use a magazine or newspaper. I have an old broom with which I batter the creatures to death from a farther distance. All while shreiking, of course.

I thought the enormity of the flying roach was due to the old, filthy, infested buildings in New York City – that they’d come from normal-sized creatures who’d “evolved” into giants.

Blechh.

Are you sure that was a cockroach, and not an Egyptian soul-sucker?

🙂

If you’ve not seen the film “Bubba Ho-tep” you’re not going to get that allusion. And if you’ve not seen “Bubba Ho-tep”, what the hell are you waiting for? Bruce Campbell playing an old Elvis Presley… Priceless!

I have not seen it. I tried the broom first. That’s when the sucker FLEW! Man, I hate when they fly. It wasn’t until I found it on its back wiggling around that I thwacked it with the magazine. I didn’t move the magazine this morning. Ick.

Oh, and this morning, I woke up to something on Jeep’s side of the bed. Yes, when Aaron isn’t visiting, she generally joins me after finishing her bath on the cat tower. Well, not me exactly. She hangs out on her side. She has personal space needs like her mama. ANYWAY… I awoke this morning to another carcass of one of the suckers. I think it was a third because my bedroom door was closed. Jeep had definitely had a tasty snack in the night. Oh man. YUCK!

I like “flying fuckers” much better than “palmetto bugs.” They are so big near my house (by P’tree Creek) that I can actually HEAR them at night smacking their bodies against my house, which is BRICK! Ewww, totally have the heeeebie jeeebies now…

Since Dr. Abby is already grossed out beyond the limits of human endurance, I won’t go into my disquisition on the various fauna that I shared my abode with when I was stationed in the Philippines.

Fortunately, I’ve just gotten over the nightmares myself.
